The car dealers I worked with came across as neither; that said, it was clear they knew what they were doing and they weren’t afraid to employ some tricks of the trade to reach a mutually acceptable price. The third value, “Dealer retail,” is the estimated price the dealer will ask for the car when he’s selling it. It has nothing to do with what you should expect the dealer to pay you.
For some, being surrounded by a squad of serious-looking people isn’t a matter of necessity. It’s a measure of status on the level of an expensive watch or a fast car. Firms will sometimes get calls from people looking for a way to get noticed by hiring a fleet of guards when there’s no threat involved. “It’s a luxury amenity,” Schissel says. “It’s more of a ‘Look at me, look at them’ thing,” agrees Moyer. “There’s no actual threat. It’s about the show. I turn those down. We do real protection.”
It’s not really “innovative” but we use Craigslist. Probably 80-90% of our sales. We use CL AutoPilot, it doesn’t cost a dime and we have about 25 vehicle ads going at once that pretty much stick because of how it works.
However, that’s not the whole story. There’s a vast discrepancy between great salespeople (who sell 20+ cars a month) and bad salespeople (who might struggle to sell 8 cars in a month). A salesperson who moves 20 cars a month is probably going to earn $6-$8k, while a salesperson who can only move 8 cars a month is likely to earn minimum wage.

To find exactly the car you want, you can filter your search by many factors including the miles on the car’s odometer, its price and features, and dealer’s distance from you. Customer loyalty, while always important, is mission-critical in a competitive automotive market. While customer satisfaction surveys commonly are utilized in attempts to measure loyalty in the automotive industry, they do not account for the profound difference between customer-reported intentions and their actual behavior.
13. Car buyers will pay more for a car than they need to when they believe that the value of your service and the value of the dealership outweighs the price. This is very important car selling advice and I’m not going to type it twice so read again and again until it sinks in and becomes a part of your being.
