Traditionally, the manufacturer fulfills this information gap for the buyer. This is supported by statistics uncovered by Google’s study citing “manufacturer interactions” as being the most significant touchpoint throughout the buyer journey.

Utilize apps that can help your customers locate the specific car to meet their needs without having to go through your entire lot. Sit down with them, pull up your inventory through the app, and have them plug-in all of their criteria. In return, they’ll get a list of vehicles to look at and you won’t have to use any sales tactics to have them look at your inventory.

KF: Simple. Our goal is to continue to grow and become more consumer-facing every day. Wyler FastLane allows us to provide a flexible mobility solution to our customers that is personalized and convenient while helping us to become more consumer-facing. In this time of disruption, every dealer, vendor, and OEM should be asking themselves this same question before any move they make.

Ed Brooks 2018 will be the year that ‘Digital Retailing’ becomes mainstream – at least starts to become mainstream. Driven by the large dealer groups, by cutting-edge dealers who are always looking for the opportunities change brings, and by the ‘disruptors’ like Carvana, more and more dealerships will feel the heat and begin adding ‘Digital Retailing’ modules into their websites. Their success will depend on more the dealership culture and mindset than on technology.

Owen Moon – 2018 is the year that more dealers will start to focus their marketing efforts on Fixed Ops. This includes attracting new service business, bringing back lost service customers, and turning service customers into sales opportunities more frequently.

While shopping for a car, I was amazed by the knack car salesmen have for setting the tone of the conversation. As I lobbied for a lower price, better financing, or even free floor mats, I was met not just by a counter-offer, but an emotional response as well. He would appear upset by my gall, seemingly perturbed by my “unfair” demands. Had I offended him? Did I cross an invisible line? Well, in this case, it’s more likely that he was exaggerating, hoping I’d retreat. “People tend to like human interactions to be pleasant,” says Pham, “so negotiators will inflate their emotions hoping the other party will seek closure.”

(1) Start with a great product – Tesla would be dead today if they didn’t build the best car available today. There are too many obstacles — range, lack of road trips, and buyer confusion to name a few. Tesla used electric technology to build a car that can’t be reproduced with a combustion engine. It’s as fast as a Porsche and gets the equivalent of 100 miles per gallon. It has very few moving parts. It is the most aerodynamic car made and has the most cargo space of any car in its class. It’s a sports car that seats seven.

There are really only two ways to sell cars and you can profit either way, but only one is for a long standing career, with a steadily increasing income and the ability to sleep well at night, with a clear conscience.

Basware must be doing something right; Tihilä said the company in Q3 grew 70 percent from revenues the year before. With electronic invoicing now at just 10 percent of the market, he sees great growth potential.

I have sold cars for a long time and it seems that things are getting harder by the day. Customers that you do get in front of you. They are smarter, most have already done their homework and no one lately wants to pay for anything. My past customers are wore out from my calls. Just want to know how can I get more customers and in myy face.

When evaluating whether or not to take on a new employee, Kalaydjian weeds out anyone looking to share in a client’s fame. “I’ve seen guys doing things they shouldn’t,” he says. “They’re doing it to be seen.” Bodyguards posting pictures of themselves with clients on social media is a career-killer: No one in the industry will take a “buddyguard” seriously. Kalaydjian recalls the one time he smirked during a 12-year-stint guarding the same client, something so rare his employer commented on it. “It’s just not the side you portray on duty.”

You need to be very careful when buying a used car. You can easily end up with a lemon or rebuilt car. When you see a horrific wreck on the highway you probably don’t realize that many of those cars end up repaired, rebuilt and sold on the used car marked.

KF: We are the first, and I believe, the only dealer in the country that has developed augmented reality solutions internally that we are using in the dealership showroom to better engage our shoppers. This past December we were the first in our market to introduce virtual reality test drives on our websites. Why do I share these Two examples? Our consumers’ expectations are rising each year, and our goal is to exceed those expectations wherever we can – while becoming more consumer-facing.

This situation is changing. Automobile retailing is evolving at an unprecedented rate. At one level the future implications are clear. These include multiple alternative formats and channels; greater unbundling of dealer businesses; increased value through the channels (improved service and selection at a lower cost); more emphasis on life-cycle relationships, and probably tighter relationships between manufacturers and consumers. Specifically who will win and lose is much less clear. The odds are not with the manufacturers, but the game is not lost. To win they must shake off old habits and practices and then visualize and implement revolutionary ways to sell cars.

I went through national auto academy too, zeroway! My class was fun. I do have to say that after being on the floor for six months or so, what they teach you is spot on. I sold my first car on my third day! And as far as fees go for the other poster, you’re not paying for a job; you’re paying for an education to get the job. Trust me, you won’t survive one Saturday on the floor without training.

“I only deal with real food,” says Chris Oliver, who has styled food for movies including Gone Girl (2014) and TV shows such as Seinfeld and Big Little Lies. “You also have to think about how a character would cook something or put a plate together. Realistic food is not all beautiful and perfect. I make ugly food and burnt food, too.”

Can you give me an idea of what sort of margin we can expect to be taken off of a Mercedes vs. a Mitsubishi? We bought a 2009 C350 for 40k even (listed at 41500) with the “package 2” option a number of years ago. Anywho, we’ve since gotten rid of it, but want another one some day. Is there more room on Mercedes to negotiate vs a brand like Mitsubishi or is that just me assuming there is.

As well as listing your vehicles online, you should also be careful to include content that shows that you are knowledgeable in your field to build a higher level of trust between you and the reader. Adding online guides that may interest your customers such as ‘What to look for in a family car’ or ‘Ten ways to get your car ready for winter’ will all show that you are engaging with your industry in a positive way. Adding rich content such as photos, interactive graphics and videos will also boost your Google page listings as Google consider this content as more useful for your readers.

The only thing we had complaints about in the past, was the price of the Four Seasons rooms for our out-of-town guests.  This year we have set up a deal with a close by hotel that is going to provide us with a special DealerTalk rate.

He found out (the hard way) a basic truth of car buying: There is no clause in a sales contract that allows a buyer to return a car because it’s missing a feature he assumed was there. Car sales are, largely, final.

Forget about the high failure rates, pressures to sell, and potential debts to their employers. Car salespeople also have to endure brutal tactics used by fellow salespeople. For example: It’s your day off? Opportunistic coworkers might tell your loyal customers that you’ve been fired, sell the car themselves, and keep the commission. “Some people would step over their own mothers to get that car sale,” McDonald says. They also risk life and limb whenever buyers take them out on a test drive. “I once went for a ride with a drug dealer in Oakland who took me on a test drive to collect drug money,” Teves recalls. “Any test drive when you come back alive is a successful test drive.”

Drill down to what the value is for those markets. How will it help them? What will their result be if they buy your product? Then create a marketing message around that value as that is what your targets will hear. You will most likely have two different marketing efforts – one to the schools and one to the parents.

Don’t try to be on every social media site online. Instead, focus on distributing quality content on a few of the most popular sites, such as Twitter and Facebook. If your social media pages are stagnant, visitors will think your auto business is lazy or doesn’t care about its customers. An automated marketing solution can help you keep your pages current, without you having to manually update it all the time. Create posts and tweets in advance and schedule them to post over time so you are consistently promoting yourself as a reliable car dealer online.

Inventories are on the rise, prompting car companies to try and boost sales through their standard marketing strategies of increasing advertising and improving purchase incentives, such as cash rebates, lease offers and low-cost loans. Yet those strategies—if executed in the usual way—may not deliver more than the usual results, causing a negative impact on residual values and brand equity.

I highly recommend sitting down with your entire sales team and having each person come up with objections they might anticipate. Give them your sales pitch and see if there are any objections you and your team may have missed.

Then develop a strategy to fill the information gaps and help to inject your dealership into their purchasing equation. If you can be of help you will establish a sense of goodwill and if they come to the conclusion they’re after a vehicle you sell, well you’ve staked a claim that they should buy from you.

Companies that are making the grade understand that unlike earlier technical advances, digital transformation doesn’t just support the business, it’s the future of the business. That’s why 60% of digital leading companies have entrusted the leadership of their transformation to their CIO, and that’s why experts say businesspeople must do more than have a vague understanding of the technology. They must also master a way of thinking and looking at business challenges that is unfamiliar to most people outside the IT department.

Step two is properly preparing and training your staff to handle the extra traffic. With the never-ending explosion and evolution of technology, it can be easy to forget one basic fact: automotive marketing is still a people business.  The face-to-face interaction between your salesperson and the customer is the lifeblood of car marketing.  Providing your staff with the latest word tracks, tips, and techniques is as essential as having the right inventory.  Moreover, getting your staff pumped up, excited, and energized can make the difference between an average event and a record-breaking event. This is why we are more than just an automotive marketing company – we provide on-site training as well as direct mail services.

People don’t want to be pandered to anymore. They want to be spoken to like an investor — because frankly, that’s exactly what buying a car is: an investment! This is especially important in the digital age, as many consumers do their research online. If they’ve never set foot in your store, but discovered you on social media or search engine, you want your online presence to be a reflection of your amazing inventory and customer service.

Regularly drawing close to a million consumers and 5,000+ press, the North American International Auto Show in Detroit has hosted plenty of historic moments. But after market research revealed ever-growing expectations for entertainment at the show, which in turn can lead to increased and…

Offer an incentive for people to speak good things about you to their family and friends. The average person won’t always trust a used car business, but they will trust others who have had a good experience. Help them save money on fuel, maintenance, or other service packages if you have an ambassador helping you out.

Food stylists use a mix of back-of-the-house kitchen lingo and film jargon. Some examples: The “hero” is the food that is written into the script, is being shot, and must appear in front of the actor. “Bite and smile” is when an actor takes a bite of food and pretends to like it. “All day” is the total number of items needed; if they needed five turkeys on a set, they would say “five all day.”

Get your marketing managers, back-end developers, writers, and a few salespeople into a room. Pinpoint the problems in the marketing strategy and what needs to change. Host two or three meetings with your team to find solutions and assign tasks with a deadline in place.

Hi there, you seem very intelligent on what you are preaching so I had a few questions for you about being a car salesman. I’m 20 years old and in college now planning on getting a bachelors in business, but I want to be a car salesman, I love cars so much!!…

Get experience in customer service. Customer service experience is a big asset for being a car salesperson, as you will need to interact with customers all day long. Look for customer service positions in retail, such as at a department store or a clothing store. Having customer service experience will be an asset on your resume, as it shows potential employers that you have interacted with customers before.[2]

Most rewarding part? I took pictures of everyone I sold a car to. They were ALWAYS happy. On their 1 year anniversary of their purchase, I would send them a card with the picture. I got more repeat and referral business from stuff like this. I called people 30 days after purchase to make sure they were happy. Again, more referrals. The key is that once the sale is over, that’s when the real work begins. Followup is the key to more sales. Happy customers are the most valuable commodity in the world.

Some banks are already using blockchain technology to transform their business processes, as it offers secure, convenient alternatives to traditional bank processes. Lately, blockchain has been in the spotlight because of its ability to reduce fraud in the financial world. Blockchain is already used in the financial instruments areas of banking, including payments (cross-border, peer-to-peer, corporate and interbank); private equity asset transfers; tracking derivative commodities; the management of trading, spending, mortgage and loan records, microfinance applications, and customer service records.

Financial technology companies (fintechs) have begun disrupting the market with cryptocurrency, bitcoin, blockchain, and more. In the United Kingdom, a new breed of banks called “challenger banks” have emerged, focusing on delivering digital-only services and exceptional customer interactions. In the United Kingdom alone, there are currently more than 20 challenger banks.

The auto industry has undergone ongoing and dynamic transformation over recent years.  Connected technologies, changing trends in consumer shopping behavior, digital and mobile channels, longer vehicle lifespans, and consumer mobility behaviors are all impacting how the automotive industry must respond to the changing climate.

Once you’ve created content for your site, have a call to action ready to go so that users are easily able to take the next step, which often includes direct interaction with the dealership. For example, if you’ve written a blog post about “Things that every new car should have,” at the bottom of the post, you may want to have a link that says “Sign up for your free test drive today!” so that users are more enticed to follow through. For larger pieces of content such as ebooks and white papers, creating a call to action that leads to a landing page where the user is required to fill out a form before they download is an easy way to acquire contact information to add to a newsletter list.

I also think that the internet is helping improve this ratio in favor of good salespeople and sales managers. Search engines and a few websites allow consumers to post reviews of any car dealership out there. The internet is also increasingly becoming the starting point for people shopping for cars. Bad dealerships are losing money when people leave bad reviews.

Soft selling an indecisive customer is almost sure to fail. Going over again the highlights from the test drive is a good place to start. The best place to be with this sort of customer is the negotiation desk or your equivalent. The line that sells the most cars on my lot is “aren’t you interested in what it would actually cost?” Don’t fear the harder sell to noncommittal customers, its chances aren’t the best but it’s a lot better than letting them walk off the lot and never return.

Fact: Email is a great way of automobile marketing but engaging requires far more than a one-way message. What is your open rate? What is your click through rate, bounce rate? Sending the same message over and over to the same audience is not engaging. When you segment your list, request interaction and survey your list you will be far better equipped to convert that list into buyers. With today’s technology and the fact that 77% of consumers prefer permission based communication a more effective plan executes, tests, refines and re-executes.

This allows auto marketers to hyper-focus their outreach in an optimized market, and target the best shoppers for their brand or cars. It’s like pouring water into a test tube from a bucket versus a pipette—the more concentrated the funnel, the better the results.

Networking is one of the most powerful tools job hunters can use. Get to know local car dealership managers and owners by attending functions where they gather. For example, you might attend local Chamber of Commerce meetings. In addition, the National Automotive Dealers Association holds annual conventions and regular seminars and workshops. Talk to experienced professionals about your interest and learn how they started in the professions. Ask for referrals and job leads from dealers you meet and arrange for meetings with key dealers in your area to build relationships that will lead to a sales associate position.

Stage One: This is marked by major improvements in value delivered, mostly reductions in cost. Usually the cost reductions stem from consolidation and rationalization in the channel as better concepts or bigger players drive out marginal or small players. The bigger players use their cost advantage to reduce prices and often to improve service, variety and convenience.

When working crowd control or trying to corral legions of screaming teenagers, having a massive physical presence comes in handy. But not all “close protection specialists” need to be the size of a professional wrestler. “It really depends on the client,” says Anton Kalaydjian, the founder of Guardian Professional Security in Florida and former head of security for 50 Cent. “It’s kind of like shopping for a car. Sometimes they want a big SUV and sometimes they want something that doesn’t stick out at all. There’s a need for a regular-looking guy in clothes without an earpiece, not a monster.”

Top quality merchandise attracts top quality salespeople who know how to interact with customers with lots of money. The money and the cream of the people working in any business tend to rise to the top.

18. Shut up and listen. You have two ears and one mouth so listen twice as much as you talk and learn when to shut up. See Shut-up a Car Salesman Tip the post. The power of knowing when to talk and when to shut up can make a huge difference in your car sales commission. There is a saying in the car business when negotiating that the first one to speak loses after a proposal.

Just started at a local Toyota dealership (I’ll be one week in on Thursday). What can I do to start building a client base and get my name out there besides Facebook. Seeing that I just started my business cards will not be in for a few weeks. Besides writing my name and cell phone number on the back of my sales managers cards and using Facebook, could you please help advise me with additional ways to build a client base?

It’s rather simple….you just need to have a professional attitude, enthusiasm, and good product knowledge. In my book “Becoming an Automotive Sales Professional” I try to teach this with all it’s nuances of working in the career of a professional sales advisor.

For protection specialists who take on celebrity clients, news and gossip site TMZ.com can prove to be a valuable resource. “I love TMZ,” Moyer says. “It’s a treasure trove for me to see who has problems with bodyguards or who got arrested.” Such news is great for client leads. Moyer also thinks the site’s highly organized squad of photographers can be a good training scenario for protection drills. “You can look at paparazzi as a threat, even though they’re not, and think about how you’d navigate it.” Plus, having cameras at a location before a celebrity shows up can sometimes highlight information leaks in their operation: If photographers have advance notice, Moyer says, then security needs to be tightened up.

“I started 19 years ago with one dealership, and we advertised on the radio to reach people as far away as we could,” Folsom says. “Now I have five dealerships, and radio is still working for us. I just want people to come see me. When they get here, I have to treat them right and do what I promised them in my ads.”

Digital transformation looks different in every industry and every company. In general terms, it is the integration of digital technology into all areas of a business. That integration leads to fundamental changes in how the business operates and delivers value to its customers.

Automobile ads are commonly associated with gleaming cars cruising winding roads in catchy TV spots. But a digitally savvy generation of customers, the emergence of new customer touch points, and the need for car manufacturers to distinguish their vehicles in a traffic jam of similar products has given rise to the adoption of new channels and strategies.

Use Twitter to Drive SalesMarketshare research discovered that in 2013, Twitter drove $716 million in car sales. Twitter continues to be a popular choice among auto consumers. Recent research by Canvs found that more than 327,000 auto-related tweets are sent out daily, and 75% of these are directly related to owning or shopping. Using keyword targeting, these signals can be picked up and direct messages and advertising can be sent to those consumers who have displayed purchase intent.

Preparing the sales presentation to address and overcome potential objections can speed up any deal. If something catches you off-guard, you might need to take some time to think up a solution. In a past Inc. article published here, sales expert Tom Searcy calls this having a “landmine map.” By having an outline of anticipated problems and a thoughtful analysis of the risks, you can reduce the resistance.

99 of 100 automotive shoppers begin their purchase journey expecting it to be a “hassle” driven in large part by their experience, and that of friends/family, with retailers seeking to control the buying process to the retailer’s objectives.

2) If you find sales folks who are constantly negative, stay away from them. You’ll spot them right away… they usually stand off by themselves waiting for “ups” (folks coming on to the lot), smoking like chimneys and poppin’ TicTacs. They usually watch the clock like madmen, too. They float from lot to lot, burning through many contacts in the biz and finally ending up out of the biz altogether. They will leave a dealership at the drop-of-a-hat… always looking for “greener grass”.

Here’s what we mean. What if there were specific TV spots aimed at college seniors as they are about to graduate? The spots would only run in the late spring, and could also be targeted to parents of graduating students.

We’ve already spoken about how the arrival of a new car is such an event in most households. You need to cash in on that very sentiment that makes this purchase so important to your customer. Embrace the excitement and apprehension behind the purchase and make sure they cherish the journey with your brand. Do away with age-old traditions of intimidating paper work and endless follow ups. A few ways to enhance the experience would be to:

Just as specific groups of customers have their own product requirements, different consumer segments have their own requirements for the purchase and ownership These requirements can be effectively targeted with channel, format and “soft offer” package variations such as service contracts, financing or sales incentives. Ultimately, the consumer-segment requirements will drive the service requirements and in turn help determine the best cost and operating structure for the specific distribution format and customer-value proposition.

That question gets at the crux of the whole matter. If it’s based on brand, then the hurdle of the dealership doesn’t matter. If it’s a type of car (say, you’re looking for a gas-saving sedan), then the dealership poses a larger problem.

@ Babalaas- I have to agree with your assertion that being a car salesman is not all about cheating a consumer. I think the ratio of good and bad car salespeople roaming dealer lots across the country is about 50/50.

FYI: The preconcieved stereotype of a sleazy car salesman falls apart when dedication to service and professionalism shines through Car dealers have always battled against negative stereotypes. These perceptions stem…

We often tout the importance of providing value, and while a new car is certainly valuable, using social media to empower and motivate your entire workforce so that they can help your customers out has a much bigger effect.

Flexibility and the ability to capitalize on accidental discoveries during experimentation are more important than having a concrete project plan, says Ross. At Spotify, the music service, and CarMax, the used-car retailer, change is driven not from the center but from small teams that have developed something new. “The thing you have to get comfortable with is not having the formalized plan that we would have traditionally relied on, because as soon as you insist on that, you limit your ability to keep learning,” Ross warns.

If you haven’t updated your Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategies recently, you may be surprised to find out that they are ineffective. Or even worse…that those old tactics that used to work are…

Hey guys for anyone looking to get in the car business I would highly recommend it. You definitely can not be lazy and you need to know how to be productive during the slow days/hours. I got into the business right when I turned 18 and now I am 20 selling 20 cars a month making around 10k a month. But you have to answer the phones, have great follow up and not afraid to take ups. I am just honest with customers and if they are looking at a car that I know doesn’t suit them I advise them to switch cars even if the gross is smaller on the other vehicle. Also, always ask for reviews on google mentioning your name. I am by all means no vet and learn something everyday. But personally love the business!

“Too many vendors are still perpetuating old digital marketing myths.” Says Sean Stapleton, CEO, Dealer Teamwork. “The current system is broken. 2018 will be a year of massive change. Dealership professionals will need to work harder and smarter. Half of the dealers will realize their performance won’t improve using the three or four vendors with same outdated solutions they’ve been using. Unfortunately, the other half will continue along their current path, miss their chance to improve, and let their competitors move ahead.”

Customers looking for a trade-in often times will value their car through Kelly Blue Book, but that value is only accurate if they can sell their car at full Kelly Blue Book retail. Every month a car loses 2% of its value, and then you have to attach all the expenses to it that make it ready to sell like tires, brakes, the noise in the back, that light that won’t turn on, the safety check, and reconditioning. Also, if another customer comes in and wants to offer less for the car than what it is priced at, the dealership will likely take it because they want to make the sale, thus the customer’s car is likely to bring in less than what they believe it will. Explaining this to your customers is important so they understand that you aren’t gypping them in price.[6]

I don’t know about you, but I am getting tired of hearing about transparency in the car business. We are supposed to have everything spelled out and on display. Dealerships should have every price, every Read more…

The code is, if the guy is traveling 2 hours OUT OF HIS WAY to come see you, he’s a done deal. He’s shopped the local guy and still thinks he’s not getting a square offer. The dealership is going to beat whatever the local guy offers by a couple hundred bucks, just as a big “fuck you, I stole what should have been your customer” to your local. The biggest question is, what is your time worth? Are you willing to travel that far just for the win, or are you seeing some significant savings? I ask because you can do a lot of it over the internet and save yourself the drive. Get an offer from the one 2 hours away, shop it against the local, and get the deal. Internet guys have one move, and that’s to give it away. They’re dealing with nothing but price shoppers, and if you’re not a local, they know that in order to get you, they’re going to have to give up serious money. Most wont. Some will.

Good CIOs have long needed to be internal consultants to the business. Ever since technology moved out of the glasshouse and onto employees’ desks, CIOs have not only needed a deep understanding of the goals of a given project but also to make sure that the project didn’t stray from those goals, even after the businesspeople who had ordered the project went back to their day jobs. “Businesspeople didn’t really need to get into the details of what IT was really doing,” recalls Ferro. “They just had a set of demands and said, ‘Hey, IT, go do that.’”

We’ve stood on a soapbox before about social media in relation to car dealers, and we also believe that online marketing is often missed out on in car dealer circles, but don’t get the wrong idea. We’re not telling car dealer owners that they shouldn’t be using traditional marketing as well, just that they need to broaden their marketing scopes, or fall behind other dealers who are willing to take the risk and learn about this new online strategy that’s exploding into marketing.

Rather than reaching the entire millennial market, focus in on the right millennials to drive results for your brand. Reach aspirational millennial targets by identifying additional key characteristics using purchase data:

32. Don’t summarily reject a car because there is an incident on the vehicle history report by Carfax or AutoCheck. Virtually any car that’s been fixed and paid through insurance will be reported to these companies. That could even include minor incidents, like parking lot dings. Get it out.

The average car salesperson’s salary in 2012 was just under $45,000. And it doesn’t come easy. Many salespeople work purely on commission, meaning they only make money if they sell a car. “We’re not paid anything for standing there 12 hours a day and not selling,” says McDonald. “And if I work a whole week and don’t sell a car that week, I make nothing. When I do finally sell a car, I might make a minimum commission, which at my dealership is $125. When you divide that by 60 to 90 hours a week, it’s nothing.” Smith agrees, citing an average success rate of about 20 percent. “We lose in this industry a whole lot more than we win.”

My advice: don’t wait until you desperately need a car to start shopping for one.  If you have a vehicle with 150,000 to 250,000 miles on it, you’re going to have SUBs (Sudden Unexpected Breakdowns).  Along with those come SUHEXes (Sudden Unexpected Huge Expenses).  So start preparing to buy a new (or newer) vehicle today.  Read reviews in Motor Trend, talk to your bank or credit union about financing, ask your friends if they know of a good salesperson, and start setting aside a little money for a down payment.

Mobile devices have not only become a key component of auto shoppers’ journeys but they also dominate digital interactions. Google studied in detail one consumer’s complete journey, from awareness to purchase, and found that 71% of digital interactions occurred on mobile. Additionally, 58% of auto shoppers agree that in the future their smartphone is likely to be the only device they use for vehicle research.

If your customers seem pleased with the car, ask them “Is this the car for you?” and if the answer is yes, go on to seal the deal! If your customer still isn’t sure, try suggesting other cars you think would be a good fit.

Until the automobile market begins to find the emotional cues of the target audience and become honest with themselves about where they stand, the automotive brands will continue to watch cars sit idly in lots.

34. Before you buy, get a good idea of what maintenance will be required and how much it will cost. If you buy a car that is nearing 75,000 miles, for example, look in the service manual for the recommended service at that mileage. Then go to the service department and ask how much that will cost. Don’t forget to check on tire costs.

Let’s start with the 800 pound gorilla—Facebook. In December 2012, Facebook had 167 million users in the U.S. and 1 billion worldwide1, according to marketwatch.com. With that many people logging on, dealers simply cannot ignore this platform. Changes to the way Facebook displays posts, sponsored posts, ads, and a host of other changes have complicated how dealers can connect with their customers on this behemoth of a social network.

China’s car market rules are already designed to help develop the local industry. For one thing, foreign companies are only allowed to operate in China’s automobile market through joint venture (JV) partnerships, with foreign equity capped at 50%; these equity restrictions have been maintained by the most recent version of the Catalogue Guiding Foreign Investment in Industry, released in June 2017. In recent years, there have also been allegations from foreign players that Chinese regulators have employed legislation, such as China’s Anti-Monopoly Law—which saw aggressive enforcement against foreign automakers for alleged price violations in 2014—as a tool of industrial policy to chip away at foreign market share, in order to give local automakers room to grow.

19. Look them in the eyes. If you have a tendency to look away when people look you in the eye you better get over it. Most people do, but when you don’t look your customer in the eye when you speak it feels sincere. You can also pick up on their level of commitment and sincerity when you look them in the eye.

I work as BDC and a delivery specialist. My BDC is not well put together so it is very hard for me to even GET people in.. I’ve been thinking about working in Sales for awhile now.. I am 20, I am a female and I really want to take the next step as working in sales but very indecisive because I don’t know if it will work out for me. I love people, I love talking to people and I do love selling but I feel like when it comes to cars I’m not so sure if ill do good. SO basically my negotiations skills is not good whatsoever. Any tips? dlw12@yahoo.com

One easy way to directly communicate with potential customers is through email. Whether it’s sending monthly newsletters about sales going on or new vehicle features, email is an easy way to put your dealership on a customer’s radar. You can also use email to set up marketing automation according to user activity on your site. For example, if your tracking indicates a user searching for SUVs on your site, you can use email automation to send them an email that specifically offers specials on SUVs.

Fact:  Actually you don’t. Data shows that dealerships have leaks in their database. You never own a customer and if you do, certainly not for life. Customer loyalty is built over time and requires authentic and relevant messaging to engage and maintain the interest of the customer.

Car shoppers agree that videos play an important role in introducing them to new brands and vehicles, with 47% saying that they first heard about a specific car by watching online videos. In terms of decision-making, 65% reported that they narrowed down their options after watching a video.

Finally, I’m going to call 2018 the year of the pretender. The language from the vendor community is going to sound the same, but the results will be wildly different. Anyone can put a V12 sticker on a trunk lid, but when it comes time to open the hood, most will still have a wheezing, decrepit, four-cylinder still burning oil.

Though many “Am I getting a deal?” moments take place at the dealership, Stacy spent time researching deals both on and off the lot. She researched lease money factors, read about how she might forgo a dealer altogether, and crowdsourced actual prices paid for different brands and models so she could show up prepared.

10. The car buyer can smell desperation. When you are desperate to sell a car your customer can sense that like an angry dog can smell fear. Even if you desperately need to sell a car the customer needs to believe that you don’t need to sell them a car, but you are merely helping them gather information. Desperation will turn them off so quickly that you will wonder what you did or said. This is one of the most important car salesman tips that can make a huge difference in increasing your sales and ultimately your income.

All of it ends in the ability of the Audi to drive 700 miles using one tank of gas. It’s a long three plus minutes to get to the final payoff with lots of beauty shots of the Audi driving the open road. Unlike a lot of fuel saving vehicle ads there is no information about how many MPGs the car produces or what benefits diesel may have over other fuel economical cars, just that it’s better than driving with an odd over-sharing limo driver.

At the end of the day, reviews can be overwhelming. That’s why we’re here to help. Our strategy allows us to handle the monitoring and bulk of review replies so that your team can focus on creating better and better experiences for your customers.

So here we are in the first week of 2017.  It’s a new year and I’m betting a lot of people are planning on buying a new (or used) car sometime in the coming year.  Think you’re ready for some good, old-fashioned fender tradin’?  Lookin’ at “figgers?”  Crunchin’ numbers?  Countin’ squirrels?  Whatever you call it, you know what I mean.  Negotiating.

2. People need to have cars and they have to buy them somewhere so it might as well be from you and your dealership. No matter what they say when you first meet them, they want to buy a car. They didn’t come to your showroom to waste a few hours. They came to buy a car and it’s your job to sell them a car by determining their buying triggers and satisfying their needs while making use of your car sales techniques and training. This is one of the car salesman tips that salespeople often forget when they are working with difficult and demanding car buyers.

The sheer number of OEMs (and suppliers) in many segments has the past prompted hasty partnerships and investments. Poor decisions have been made in an effort to avoid falling behind competitors rather than to maintain a logical, suitable path for growth. In many cases, an OEM would hear about a hot market and establish a plant or distribution arm there, only to find out that its models and brands were not a good fit for that region. Auto makers often expend too much energy — and money — on vehicle design and components of vehicles that have little impact on customers’ decisions. (That’s why when an auto maker exits a disappointing market, as GM is hoping to do through the proposed sale of its European operations to PSA, industry returns on capital tick up.)

The majority of shoppers do look for special offers when shopping online. If you have promotions and special sales or financing options, make sure they are clear. Even if you are just mirroring what an OEM is marketing, make it easily accessible and straight forward.

One example of a potentially game-changing innovation is to give brand marketers advanced analytical and social media tools—along with real-time inventory visibility—so they can develop and execute laser-focused marketing programs in geographic areas with surplus inventory. By targeting micro-segments of consumers with personalized offers based on their individual needs, preferences and geographic location, automakers can proactively manage inventory surpluses before they occur, greatly reducing the need for costly sales incentives to move aging inventory off the lot.

I’ve been flying by the seat of my pants here, and have been so focused on visibility that I haven’t been looking directly into our sales funnel and how it works. While I’m a statistical monitoring junkie, my overall strategic thinking has been so focused on web promotion and product production that I’ve been forgetting about the thing that’s actually going to keep us afloat: sales!

Creating your own car dealer geo-directory app is a great way of deepening customer loyalty and increasing your sales leads. Simply list your vehicles on the app by location and the app will use GPS to locate your users, directing them to listed vehicles based on where they are. Streamlining your search in this way can cut down on what we like to call ‘searching fatigue’ that feeling of endlessly scrolling through pages of content without getting anywhere. Avoiding this is essential as potential customers will eventually get bored and leave your app if they feel that they are struggling to find what they are looking for.

Do include your contact details in case there is anything you haven’t covered. Often it is those that make life simpler for the consumer – by operating as a one-stop information shop – that make the sales.

The salesman who works with it every day knows what he’s doing with the 4-square a lot better than you do. Any attempt to deviate the conversation to monthly payments, or anything other than final price, is an attempt to get you to pay more money. It’s often very hard to get salespeople to discuss final price. They’d much rather talk payments, because payments can hide what you actually end up paying. A monthly payment of $200 on a 2012 Civic with $5000 down sounds great, until you realize that it’s a 5 year loan and you’re paying 20 grand for the base model that MSRPs at 15.

There is a ton of noise when it comes to automotive marketing so even as an automotive sales person it is vital you stand out from the crowd. People have to at least know who you are for them to ask for you when they pop into your showroom. You agree?

Changing Technologies and Key Demographics. Consumers today are more connected and connected cars will ultimately appeal to a wide variety of demographics.  However, a wide range of studies show that demand skews towards younger demographics. A report by automotive research company, SBD provides evidence that these connected systems are important to younger, more digitally oriented consumers and will likely impact their next vehicle brand purchase decision.  Cars play a key role in supporting Millennials’ need to stay connected, and in a study by Autotrader.com, 72% of younger millennials indicated that a car is important to their social life. Style and features, especially technology, are critically important to them. For example, more than 70% of younger millennials cite technology and infotainment features as “must-haves” when purchasing a car.

Look for more action by the telecoms to get involved, as mobile devices will provide the missing link to V2V communications.Forward leaning metro dealers will skip the buy-online investment, and instead lay the framework for fleet management. As OEMs conspicuously move away from the retail model, committed dealers will be proactive in protecting the business they’ve worked so hard to maintain.

Ultimately, campaigns like the Kia Soul shuffle are designed to entice consumers to do the talking in viral environments such as YouTube. When consumers participate creatively in a campaign, not only will they develop a positive association with the brand—in this case Kia—they’ll also be more likely to notify their peer group about the work they’ve done and, by extension, talk up the brand.

Automakers should consider themselves as branded houses in which the individual brands support the overall brand promise through their own meanings, diverse advantages and unique places in the market.

However, when a new exotic car is sold, the standardized commission is usually higher than a regular car, as the opportunity to sell the exotic car is far more rare than that to sell a regular car. Combined with a salary, this means that some salesmen can and do make over 100,000 yearly, and get to benefit from driving nice cars from time to time.

The benefit of online sales can no longer be overlooked. Instead of providing a simple picture to accompany a vehicle description, utilize video. By taking a complete video of the vehicle’s exterior and interior, it will help indecisive buyers make a quicker decision. These videos can be uploaded to YouTube for further marketing potential.

With traditional media, marketers in every industry have long struggled with the issue of latency—the delay between when a marketing activity occurs and when the results can be measured, a problem that is particularly acute in automotive due to its long purchase cycle. In digital media, latency is sharply reduced or eliminated as there is often zero lag time between action and measurement, enabling companies to quickly iterate, learn and improve their marketing programs.

FYI: The preconcieved stereotype of a sleazy car salesman falls apart when dedication to service and professionalism shines through Car dealers have always battled against negative stereotypes. These perceptions stem…

As recently as 2013, more than one-fourth of all U.S. households did not have Internet service, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Almost one out of six households did not even possess a computer, the bureau found.

If you want to transform your auto dealer marketing and achieve real results, then you need to start from the bottom. Gather the right team of professionals to help tackle different tasks and brainstorm ideas.

My dealership, Friendly Chevrolet in Fridley, MN, has been the No.1 Chevy dealer in our district for 16 years running. We leverage digital marketing. It has helped boost monthly sales by an average of 10 to 15 vehicles. That is more than 10% of our sales volume.

Their sales are not impacted by whether they are a Ford nor Otherwise, if the Ford brand were so strong, all of its sales would be rising. Instead, they fluctuate like a rising and falling gnat swirling around the back deck.

You said your company was full disclosure. If a company tries to use the four-square technique, how would I go about persuading them to fully disclose their profits as well as how I would read it? Would their be a line items for how much profit they would be getting for the sale at the current price?

In a recent Gallup poll, car salespeople were ranked as some of the least honest, least ethical professionals in America, just above members of Congress (who came in last) and below bankers, lawyers, and ad professionals. This stigma has genuinely negative effects: According to a 2007 study published in the Journal of Selling, awareness of this stereotype hurts job performance. When they feel they’re being judged, salespeople don’t try as hard; they think they’ve already lost the sale. Customers then see the salesperson as detached and uncaring, and aren’t as likely to buy—and the cycle perpetuates! Managers can help, the study suggests, by training and providing support and empathy for salespeople. Customers can try to keep an open mind. And the salespeople themselves? They can build relationships, follow up after a sale, and remember honesty is the best policy. After all, as Smith says, “It is our responsibility to help change their opinions.” Of course, that, like puppy-dogging and these things, could just be another hard sell.

Unfortunately, the infographic doesn’t have a similar viral impact of say Intel’s Museum of Me which did some similar things; though, to be fair, the Intel idea requires significantly more budget to do. Intel created a personal video that brought people’s Facebook content into a museum like walkthrough.  Perhaps a personal museum of BMW content shared by the person and their friends could showcase interaction with the brand in a more interesting way than an infographic.

I’m considering buying a GL63 AMG (or maybe just a GL550), but it’s not exactly a car that dealers keep on their lots. What should I know about (1) dealing with the deposit, (2) any BS that might come up while waiting for delivery, and (3) negotiating pricing on a car that’s produced in low quantities (but is not in incredibly high demand)?

As with all forms of digital advertising, this type of content must be useful and informative. Most importantly, drivers must not get distracted by the ads, which could present a serious safety hazard if not handled properly. When it comes to in-car marketing, relevancy and moderation is key.

Shrinking dealer margins do not translate into happy customers: Most customers (approximately four out of five) dislike the purchase process, and many still come away feeling cheated and mistreated. This strong antipathy is largely responsible for the rapid growth of Internet-based services that offer alternative means of gathering information on cars, soliciting price quotes and, in some cases, conducting transactions.

In order to protect minority opinions, comment downvotes have been disabled via CSS. Without accountability, redditquette guidelines mean nothing and will only result in a combination of unconscious groupthink (the human mind naturally will try to agree with the majority opinion of the social group he identifies with) and de facto censorship (downvotes literally hide comments from view). Combined, this will lead to a cycle where only the opinions held by the majority will considered without bias.

The leaders in China are brands largely unknown to western audiences. A list of top-selling cars in China includes the Wuling Hongguang (a van), the Great Wall Haval 6 (an SUV) and the Bajoun 730 (also a van).

You don’t follow-up with your customers and start making excuses for why someone won’t buy a car from you. Everything is “Whoa-Me.” There’s no traffic coming in the store, it’s raining, it’s hot, it’s too cold outside. We don’t have any cars, get my point yet?

Third, give out some neat promotional stuff, considering customer needs. What could really benefit someone looking to buy a used car? Maybe something to make the process more practical, like an e-book about the used-car buying process or a payment calculator. Or maybe just something to make it more fun, like a list of used-car jokes.

Facebook ads in particular allow precision of consumer targeting that wasn’t possible before. If there’s one important idea you take away from this article and act on right away, make it social advertising.

4. Deliver and build. Deliver on what you said you were going to do for the prospect. Then make sure you build the relationship. Don’t expect them to stay with you or use you for other needs if you aren’t taking the time to build the relationship with them. The sales process doesn’t end with the sale.

Alex was born into the car business. His family owns a group of stores in Virginia where he held a multitude of positions since he first cut the grass there in 1989. DealerRefresh caught his attention in 2006 and he has been a part of the community ever since. In 2010 Alex joined Dealer.com to help put a dealer’s spin on products; where he got a front row seat to converse with over 13,000 dealers and watch 2 acquisitions totaling over $5 Billion. Today, Alex lives in Vermont and works to make DealerRefresh amazing!

The customer service opportunities can’t be ignored: someone tweets you to see if you have a particular vehicle in stock and you share the information they’re looking for; you can tweet a customer when it’s time for a service or time to pick up their vehicle; and you could also use the platform to promote a sales event.

If you pull into my lot and get out to look and I don’t greet you, I might have missed out on the only chance at a paycheck I’ll have that day. Do you think a lion sitting there in the veldt, who hasn’t eaten in days, looks up and spots an antelope grazing in the grass a few hundred years away and says to himself, “Naaah, I’ll let that guy go, and get the next one?” A hungry lion doesn’t care if the antelope is “just looking.” He’s going to run it down and eat it. It’s a matter of survival.

Improved resilience can be obtained through standardized procedure and the prolonged usage of virtual assessment. Decentralized as well as regionalized growth activities will aid to improve the responsiveness to client’s desires.

NEVs are an area of particularly significance for China, particularly because much of the country struggles with heavy pollution, much of which is derived from auto emissions: in 2016, the average density of PM2.5 in the air was 73 micrograms per cubic metre, according to state media—roughly translating into 198 days of “good air quality” in Beijing over that period. In comparison, the World Health Organisation, an agency under the United Nations, cautions against air quality readings in excess of an annual mean of 10 micrograms per cubic metre. The central government is acutely aware of this problem, and has taken important policy steps to rectify the situation: in December 2016, the State Council ordered that gasoline and diesel nationwide must comply with the “China V” standard, an emission standard similar to the Euro V standard. By 2020, China aims to adopt the National VI emission standard, the strictest standard currently in existence.

The marketing environment is making a hard shift. It’s moving away from fragmentation to consolidation in products. The winners? Dealers who can use technology differently within a newer operations model that combines different functional roles and simplifies time-wasting activities.

“Sometimes, a piece of inventory just won’t sell, so the general manager will keep lowering the price,” Wheeler explains. The dealership loses money on these cars, but the salesperson still gets commission. If a car is proving particularly hard to sell, some dealerships hand out cash prizes, called “spiffs,” to whoever finally sells it. As a salesperson, “you could make $5000 to $10,000 a year on spiffs alone,” McDonald says. In fact, the first car a salesperson usually shows you is a spiff. Instead of promising a specific cash amount, some dealerships have their own “wheel of fortune” with various spiff prizes on it. Salespeople could get $100, or they could get nothing, depending on where the wheel lands.

In a Pathfinder, there is all of about $2000-$2500 in total margin for the dealership to play with. There is way less money in new cars today than most people think, especially in the import world. I’m not sure what it’s like where you are, but I can tell you the Pathfinders are very hard to find right now. The dealership and the salesperson are motivated mostly by volume when it comes to new cars, and will certainly work hard to earn your business, but you have to have reasonable expectations, and there just are not huge discounts to be had on these vehicles right now.

Living in our very digital age, it’s become more important than ever before to have a strong online presence. In order to compete in the automotive industry, your website, social media profiles and advertising have to be top-notch.

There was an interesting revenue tactic last week by the Associated Press when technology company Samsung advertised on the AP’s twitter feed during CES.  AdWeek immediately covered the story, since there is some discussion about AP blurring the line of between “editorial church and state.”

Online marketing is an essential part of your automotive marketing, and the online world is constantly changing. You need to stay up to date, and connect with your customers over multiple modes of communication in order to be effective in the world of car dealer online marketing. “How can I promote my dealership online?” you may ask. We have some automotive marketing ideas to help you out.

Specifically, we probably want to find out about the vehicle models, features and also the prices. So it’s also important to give us all of this. Pictures are not going to be enough, so you may want to embed manufacturer videos or TVCs on your site.

The cause for concern for all automakers is that preference is most likely in the type of car. How do we know? If you look at the best-selling cars in America from February 2015, there is no overriding brand doing well.

Say a lady comes in with a 2006 Endeavor, and it is getting it’s 90k service. She’s due for a new car. Service tech talks to her, asks if she has time to chat with someone, and if yes, pings me. That means that she’s a referral, and no one gets skipped for “ups” in the front, it’s an appointment. If I sell her the new car, my service rep gets my $100 bird dog fee, in cash (publicly if possible). Even if it’s a mini-deal, I pay up. So if I only made $100, I pay the $100 bird dog and write it off as good karma. This means the next time my service rep sees something, shes going to send them to me knowing I’m good for it, and I’m honest, and fuck those other sales guys, I am the only one she goes to. I even get the techs in on it. It’s all about networking, even within your own dealership. It’s a treasure trove of good marketing.

To avoid having your emotions toyed with, have a backup plan for whatever it is you’re negotiating–a raise, a course of action, a new role in your company. “If you know you can get the same car at a dealer that’s a mile away, then you’re not going to be as emotionally attached to buying this car from this dealer,” says Miller. And that alone might help you get a better deal.

Social advertising is one of the biggest automotive marketing trends of 2017. Today, effective use of Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and other popular platforms goes way beyond posting photos of new vehicles on the lot or sharing the experiences of happy customers.

If people don’t know what your inventory happens to be, there’s a good chance they won’t stop by your business unless they’re looking for something special. Start sending out information about a particular vehicle you have on the lot through your blog, social media, and email feeds if you’re doing email marketing.

Unless what you sell is a “one and done” type of product or service, learning how to build rapport with your customers is the most powerful closing tool you will ever enjoy using. The biggest danger in building solid relationships with your customers is that you may end up being uncomfortable building any profit in your deals.

Back in the day, dealers used to hold all the power. Consumers couldn’t access information about financing, trade-in appraisals and inventory unless they visited the dealership and inquired about it. In the year 2016, however, this is certainly not the case.

“Oh, yeah,” he said, brightening visibly. “They’re really fast…and I probably shouldn’t say it, but they handle better than an M3.” Then he looked around to make sure no other salespeople were nearby and said, “Even if you don’t plan to buy one, you should at least drive it. They’re a blast.”

Dealers will need to evaluate their pricing management processes immediately to avoid stocking inventory priced unfavorably to the market. Be prepared for sudden used car market pricing shifts before you’re buried with losses.

A study from Bazaarvoice showed that 7 out of 10 customers who left a negative review felt differently about a business after receiving a response to their review. And those are the people who had the poor experience; not just the ones who are reading about it online, so it’s very likely this small change in handling reviews can make a big difference in how people perceive your business at first glance.

The key is to make sure every interaction with a car buyer, pre- or post-sale, should be treated with the utmost importance, because people love writing about their experiences – bad experiences even more so. The thing is, you don’t know whether the person on the other end of the phone is an influential blogger or not.

Personally, I like the ad “The Station.” While it may not promote solid MPGs or tell me why I should buy TDI over EV, PEV, or a Hybrid, it definitely is memorable and tells me Audi makes diesel cars, not that an automotive enthusiast needs a reminder.

I get paid a commission every time I sell a car. My commission is a percentage of the profit. At the dealership where I work, I get paid 25 percent of the “front-end” profit and 5 percent of the “back end.” The front-end profit is made on the purchase price of the car. The back-end profit is found in financing and anything else we sell you, such as extended service or GAP insurance.

High-profile celebrities maintain their visibility by engaging their social media users, which often means posting about their travels and events. For fans, it can provide an interesting perspective into their routine. For someone wishing them harm, it’s a road map. “Sometimes they won’t even tell me, and I’ll see on Snapchat they’ll be at a mall at 2 p.m.,” Kalaydjian says. “I wouldn’t have known otherwise.”

To quote Henry Ford’s words – “If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses ”. Great leaders don’t just meet expectations of what their customers want, they understand the need and deliver much more than what the average customer can verbalize. It isn’t rocket science when you break it down and look at it objectively.

Through in-house training programs: most dealerships have training programs for newly recruited staff. To qualify for such programs, you should have completed a professional training either in commercial or technical area or both, such as a vocational training as a car salesman.

Restructuring the business model and processes is critical to any bank’s successful digitalization. Leveraging innovative capabilities in a cloud deployment can not only speed up digital transformation initiatives but also deliver business-wide process improvements as well.

In addition to “About Us” or “Our History” pages, it also helps to be completely upfront with them regarding things you know they already care about like: saving time, making sure they’re getting a good deal, or simply confirming the details of an individual vehicle. Uber guy came in the other day looking for a second hand car. Then one of my manager pointed out one car and told him you should get that car because its in a books. What is that mean, “the car is in the books”?

So here we are in the first week of 2017.  It’s a new year and I’m betting a lot of people are planning on buying a new (or used) car sometime in the coming year.  Think you’re ready for some good, old-fashioned fender tradin’?  Lookin’ at “figgers?”  Crunchin’ numbers?  Countin’ squirrels?  Whatever you call it, you know what I mean.  Negotiating.

Third, give out some neat promotional stuff, considering customer needs. What could really benefit someone looking to buy a used car? Or maybe just something to make it more fun, like a list of used-car jokes.

According to data provided by Kelly Blue Book, a typical vehicle sold in the US last year spent more than 70 days on average on the lot, while many stay for more than four months. That means more models will be discontinued and makers will try to find new ones to take their place, continuing a losing cycle.

24. The Delivery. The last person your customer sees before they leave the dealer is you. Thank them, show them all about their new car, inspect the car with them and make sure they are happy after the F & I Manager has been grinding them for a warranty, insurance and service agreements. Make them happy so the last thing they remember when leave is you and the great experience you provided at the car dealership so they will send you referrals. This car sales tip can bring you future business and referrals which is the secret to a successful car sales career.

The quantity and quality of information collected at the dealer interface level is key to developing and maintaining an actionable customer database and accompanying marketing-decision support systems, replacing the somewhat primitive socio-demographic data that most vehicle manufacturers rely upon today.

9. When deciding where to buy, read online reviews to help you pick a dealership. In addition to checking their ratings, see if the dealerships you’re considering include free perks such as lifetime oil changes or free car washes. Or free manicures and massages.

When your dealership organization implements projects or initiatives to improve productivity, seize opportunities, or address other key issues, it usually requires changes…changes to processes, job roles, organizational structures, and/or applications of new technology. While Tesla has a long way to go to be profitable, producing cars in volume, and moving towards the mainstream, their first home-built product — the Model S — is a success. They have 10,000 – 20,000 orders and have swept the auto industry awards, winning the most recent round of Motor Trend, Automobile, and Yahoo Autos awards for car of the year. Tesla is the first startup car company, and the Model S is the first electric car, to win these awards.

This past year we saw a massive increase used automotive Internet usage (AIU) rate, as 68% of all used-vehicle buyers went online during the vehicle shopping process versus 63% in 2009.  The dramatic rise has narrowed the gap between used- and new- AIU rates. There are many fac tors at work.  One is the poor […]

Your CRM is probably tracking the original source of traffic, such as Google or AutoTrader or others. Unfortunately, sales-based analytics says, we don’t necessarily care where all the traffic’s coming from. We care about the 50 people who bought a car this month. Where did they come from? Knowing that answer radically transforms your marketing efforts. It will also help justify your budget and strategy to managers and bosses.

I don’t really subscribe to the upsell, as it denotes a desire to give someone something they don’t want to make me more money. I want you to get the car you want, whether it’s a base model with crank windows and a tape player, or the Limited Edition Whale Scrotum Leather interior. It’s about you being happy and coming back a few years from now to buy another one, or telling everyone how you got a great deal from me when they ask about your car. And they will. Because that whale scrotum is soooo supple.

As a goal to get started with diversified content, aim for four core pieces of content a month. An easy way to get started is to think of your audiences. You may have one piece of content speaking to truck buyers, for people who need service, and one for people who are interested in your community work. Those core pieces of content can be spread out over multiple channels.

Prior to the day, they shared this video promoting what the social media team intended to do. Basically they would respond to people with car issues by creating a 6-second Vine video using the hashtag #WantNewCar.

While many people do not buy more than one vehicle at a time, companies often do. By offering a percentage off on a vehicle when more than one is purchased, bulk sales will flow into the dealership. These can be company vehicles for executives or even vans used to haul materials, in either case, a discount can provide an extra form of marketing that will drive larger volumes of sales.

Dress professionally. Customers will size you up within a few minutes of meeting you at the dealership. Make sure you present your best self by dressing professionally every day for work. Put on a clean collared shirt, dress pants, a blazer or suit jacket, and formal shoes. Be well groomed and well put together so customers see you are trustworthy and professional.

Hi, my name is Sue & I’m thinking about transition into car sales. I’ve been selling vacation ownership sales for 3 years and it’s getting a bit much for me and want a fresh start at doing something else. I enjoy sales and the flexibility that comes with it. So I was thinking why not car sales? I am a woman & I have heard some unsettling stories so I was wondering what kind of advice you could offer up? I don’t really know what I’ll be getting myself into. If you could please email me suhtetnadi@gmail.com

18. When you’re car shopping with iffy credit and you want the dealership to arrange the loan, go there while banks are open. Since the dealership will be trying to find a lender to write the loan, you’ll greatly increase your chances of getting approved for a car during “bankers’ hours.”

Ford has more equity in its brand than the other two. We associate it with the Ford family, starting with Henry Ford and his invention of the assembly line in 1913 and the Model T. (Note: Contrary to what many believe, Ford did not invent the automobile. Carl Benz invented it in Germany in 1886. It was Ford who invented the process that made cars available to the general public.)

A lot of it is just the technology in the car. All Aluminum chassis. Adaptive seating and steering. Visual interfaces. All digital dash with no analog anything. Airbags for your knees. Adaptive cabin lighting. Airconditioned seats. Stuff that only Homer Simpson would think of.

CarClearanceDeals and CarsDirect are the quickest way to compare new car prices in your local area. Today’s automotive direct mailer is more interactive and exciting than ever, leading to increased response rates.  New envelopes, attachments, and other innovations have made well-crafted automotive direct mail almost impossible for the customer to ignore.

“This is a real issue in the industry,” says Steven Szakaly, chief economist for the National Automobile Dealers Association. “The attraction to digital marketing is that it is measurable. And there’s no way to measure the success of a radio ad.

EGC’s Automotive Marketing Team has a solid foundation in automotive marketing, with experience in advertising, marketing and digital, enabling car dealers dealer groups to break through the clutter.

But as always, there is a limit to nerdy magic. No matter how helpful CIOs try to be, their classmates still won’t pass if they don’t learn the material. With IT increasingly central to every business—from the customer experience to the offering to the business model itself—we all need to start thinking like CIOs.

Stage #1: Introduction to Retail Car Sales (approx. 1 – 6 months) – It’s new, fun and exciting. You have a great attitude and a thirst for product knowledge. You have pep-in-your-step and you always have a smile on your face.

Thanks to the internet, I’ve looked from California to Florida, and I’d prefer to buy from a dealership, with a warranty. Most of the cars I’m interested in have modifications that mark the price up, but it’s not worth what the dealerships are asking for because they are not in the aftermarket industry really.

Every decision maker can access the data and embedded analytics they need to directly guide business processes to quickly take advantage of emerging opportunities and mitigating risks head-on. They can measure physical store and online sales, shopping behavior, consumer loyalty, and transaction trends in one view, which can be more meaningful than analyzing these metrics separately. And they can do so using the mobile device of their choice to maintain that insight wherever they are.

We are fans of the aforementioned Dodge brothers campaign, but it may take awhile to undo the damage. None of its models – not the Challenger, the Charger, the Dart, the Durango, the Journey, the Viper or the Grand Caravan – are among the top 30 best-selling cars in America.

Strategy 7. Pay-per-click advertising. Many business owners are finding classified advertising is not an effective use of their marketing dollars. Others are finding pay-per-click advertising is an easier and cheaper way to reach a larger market. Pay-per-click will insure you receive top visibility on websites driving more customers to your door. Advertisers bid on keywords and the more popular the keyword, the more expensive each click is. Prices vary between ten cents to many dollars depending on the popularity of the word. The most popular pay-per-click advertisers are Google, Business.com, and Yahoo.

My wife melted–as wives who are businesslike but also caring are wont to do–and said, “We don’t need anyone else. You’re doing fine.” (He wasn’t, but what the heck.) “Tell me,” she asked, “have you driven one of these?”

You could have an essay content, in which graduates can be nominated (by themselves, or someone else) as being worthy of winning the new car. There are many ways to make this type of contest profitable for your dealership, so put on your thinking cap!

The curriculum of Associate’s and Bachelor’s degree programs in automotive management typically includes advertising, sales and marketing, parts and service, finance, budgeting, warranties, and customer relations. Some technical and community colleges offer certificate programs and courses in automotive sales. In addition, the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) administers various dealership operations programs and automobile manufacturers consistently offer brand- and model- specific training.
