Today, GM sports Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick and GMC trucks after dropping Saturn, Pontiac and Hummer in 2009. All total, GM currently markets 37 different consumer models in the US, 16 of which come from Chevrolet, with no easy way to navigate through the list.
The dramatic growth and power of Internet technology have greatly reduced the cost of obtaining information on features, price and availability. Consequently, customers are better equipped to extract what they want from dealerships. One of the pioneers of Internet marketing, Autobytel.com Inc., is working to speed response time from its participating dealers because it has learned that a staggeringly high proportion of its customers — 64 percent — buy within 24 hours of using its service to get price and availability quotes. The Internet offers new and better ways to perform many sales and marketing functions and makes it possible for manufacturers to have more and richer two-way communications directly with consumers. It has also provided, for the Þrst time, the capability for channel marketing on a national or even international scale, attacking further the value of the traditional, geographically deÞned channel.
Marc Motors Nissan was facing multiple challenges when they came to CBC in 2010. Their volume was suffering because of two things: Marc Motors is remotely located and the media mix they had was inconsistent with no digital presence to speak of. They were in need of a message that compelled consumers to reach out and consider Marc Motors before making a commitment anywhere else.
Truth? Sell your vehicle privately. You’ll make about 10% more. The trade is a way for you to offset the cost of the new car. It is calculated AFTER your taxes, tag, dealer prep, and all the rest. Most of the time, the value of the car barely offsets those things. Sad reality, unfortunately.
The shitty lot status helped quite a bit, because every dealership in the area expected us to suck. So they badmouthed us. With such high loyalty, it was a total turn off, and we got soooo many customers who came in and said “I was just at… (insert dealership name) and I mentioned that I bought my last car from you guys, and they were such dicks about it! They talked all kinds of trash”. At that point, we knew we had almost lost a sale, but they came back. You can only do that by treating them right the first time, and making sure they remember that you are one of the good guys. Don’t be a bush leaguer. If you catch any of your sales people talking shit about another brand, or another dealership, light their ass up. Be professional and always say “that’s a great car, and I can understand why you would want one” The customer is basically telling you exactly what they want, and it’s your job to listen.
A mass of research data, compiled into one article by V12 Data, revealed a number of insights into why car sales are now so reliant on social media. First, 84% of automobile buyers are on Facebook, and 66% of car buyers or owners who saw a Facebook ad clicked on it. That’s a 100% increase on 2014’s figure, meaning that car buyers’ interactions with Facebook advertisements are growing fast.
The report also mentions that Toyota is no newbie to being on top of these ratings. This gives us some perspective into the fact that delivering excellent customer experience isn’t a question of a single incident, neither is it the task of a single customer satisfaction team. It is an on-going pan-organizational effort which might take time to translate into ROI and success.
In order to truly engage your online customers as an auto retailer, you need to provide valuable, relevant resources. These can include informative emails, text message coupons, auto maintenance tips, industry news, whitepapers and so on. These resources help to establish your car dealer online marketing as an automotive authority and keep your customers interested.
Now car brands are using social media to reach their target market directly. Audi’s Instagram page, for example, is full of original visual content portraying the beauty of its vehicles that reassure potential rich-kid buyers that their Audi purchases would look good on their favorite image-sharing platform. The page has garnered 7.4 million followers, each one of whom has the potential to become a loyal customer.
Today’s automotive direct mailer is more interactive and exciting than ever, leading to increased response rates. New envelopes, attachments, and other innovations have made well-crafted automotive direct mail almost impossible for the customer to ignore.
In short order, GM became a collection of acquisitions and the name, General Motors, demonstrated it. It had Buick, purchased Oldsmobile later that year and Cadillac followed the next year. There were other acquisitions lost to history, including Elmore and Oakland, but the standard was set. GM would be a house of brands rather than a branded house.
After looking over the vehicle, noting any damage, and asking any questions you may have about it, take their appraisal form into your sales managers office. It should take him only a minute or so to come up with his initial offer, but inform the customer it will take about 10 minutes and use that time to begin looking at new cars.

It’s true that car salesman jobs are not physically demanding jobs, although some complain about the car salesman hours. If you are asking why become a car salesman it’s because you can earn a six figure car salesman salary and income, dress in nice clothes, talk to different kinds of people and never break a sweat. Sounds like a dream job, right? You may want to know how to become a car salesman, but that is not enough. As I mentioned earlier, almost anyone can become a car salesman. If you are going to make a living selling cars you need to be a successful car salesman that has a goal of being a great car salesman. Want some real life numbers on how much car salesmen make?
Chevrolet’s Silverado saw a 17.6% year-to-year increase in the US, while it’s other truck, the Colorado, fell off the map. Ford’s Escape and Explorer are nearly identical except in size and price. Yet, the Explorer (the larger and more expensive of the two) has seen sales rise 27.4% while the Escape has dropped 5.7%. Where’s the brand preference in that? Rebranding automobiles puts the brand preference front and center.
While most states require licensing for sellers of real estate, insurance and financial services, you don’t usually need a license to sell cars. However, some states do require that you apply for a vehicle sales license through the state department of motor vehicles, according to DMV.org. Licensing requirements vary by state for those that require licenses. If you do need a license, the process may only require completing some paperwork and paying a small fee. The typical formal education requirement is a high school diploma, but a sales certificate or business degree can enhance your chances of finding a job.
The BLS reported that jobs for retail salespersons, including car salespersons, were expected to increase by about 7% from 2014-2024, which is close to the average for all professions. According to 2015 BLS data, retail salespersons for automobile dealers averaged $45,280 annually.
“Since TradingPartners started working with IBISWorld, we have been able to build upon our category knowledge providing a deeper dive into all the interrelated factors that affect each market, especially regarding global impacts to the US market.”
There are so many different variations that range from no training to a week of training. Some are done with in house employees and some use outside trainers. Practically every dealership does it different, but it is tailored for those that never sold cars before.
But the lack of brand loyalty arises out of major problem that the automobile market has been struggling with for years. The brands and models are all basically the same once you put them into a category (such as big trucks or economy cars). The advertising would be identical if not for the logos airing at the end. You could replace an Opal logo with a Kia one and nothing would change. You wouldn’t see the difference.

While there are a few well-known male food stylists, for the most part the key food stylists in the U.S. are women. (Both of Anderson’s daughters are food stylists, too.) The reason for this dates back decades.
For example: Don’t assume that a car has a certain feature that you want. I once was showing a midsize sedan to a guy who came into the dealership without his wife. We went on a lengthy test-drive, and then he bought the car. I didn’t know it, but he and his wife were going to use the car for long road trips, and because of his bum knee, his wife was going to do most of the driving.
CarClearanceDeals and CarsDirect are the quickest way to compare new car prices in your local area. These online sites will provide you with free, no-obligation price quotes and the discounts you receive will give you confidence on your next new car purchase. Walk away from the dealership knowing you received a good deal, not hoping you did.
Some dealers moved to the one-price model. Others tried promotions that give buyers the same deal as the company’s employees. Some promise a price guarantee: If buyers find a better deal, say within 60 days, the dealer will refund the difference.
Due to the lengthy decision-making process typically involved with car purchases, it’s inevitable that car browsers are going to leave a dealer’s site. In fact, only 1% of site visitors will fill out a lead form. Considering the time, money, and data marketers invest to engage shoppers online, it’s important for brands to go the extra step and re-engage 99% of shoppers after they leave. Even if dealers use the right technologies and methods to find at-market car buyers, this effort is wasted if conversion opportunities go unrealized.
Car shoppers agree that videos play an important role in introducing them to new brands and vehicles, with 47% saying that they first heard about a specific car by watching online videos. In terms of decision-making, 65% reported that they narrowed down their options after watching a video.
• When a prospect walks in, make sure he feels like he is in safe hands. Let there be complete transparency in terms of the pricing, etc without being made to feel pressured to upgrade to another model.
This tactic is an excellent way of connecting with your customers, and works as a form of indirect marketing. Online communication, especially social media, is all about two way interaction between businesses and their customers. Pose questions, such as “What is your favorite song to listen to in the car?” Join conversations on Twitter by using hashtags (relevant keywords or phrases with the # sign in front of them) and contribute useful auto information. Communicating actively with your customers online shows that your auto dealership is active and engaged with its customers, and that you value your customers’ opinions.
Car buyers are researching your dealership. If they find your inventory online, they will inevitably end up on your website. Make the user experience unique and capture their attention (and information) right away.
Step two is properly preparing and training your staff to handle the extra traffic. With the never-ending explosion and evolution of technology, it can be easy to forget one basic fact: automotive marketing is still a people business. The face-to-face interaction between your salesperson and the customer is the lifeblood of car marketing. Providing your staff with the latest word tracks, tips, and techniques is as essential as having the right inventory. Moreover, getting your staff pumped up, excited, and energized can make the difference between an average event and a record-breaking event. This is why we are more than just an automotive marketing company – we provide on-site training as well as direct mail services.
Take a look at your Facebook page and see how it compares to what car buyers are really looking for. If you have been posting too much about tire maintenance and not enough service promotions, try posting some specials for your Facebook fans and see the response. If this sounds like too much work, remember that “More than three quarters (77 percent) of dealers’ Facebook fans live within a 50-mile radius.”4

I am a new business and don’t have a sales person. I know my market. I have made 2 calls to them and they say they should know soon. I am afraid. I have everything I need but guts. I don’t have money for a salesman. Only commision right now but no takers to even ask what my business is. They want money and I don’t it. Even if I got the leads. Any suggestions
If you pull into my lot and get out to look and I don’t greet you, I might have missed out on the only chance at a paycheck I’ll have that day. Do you think a lion sitting there in the veldt, who hasn’t eaten in days, looks up and spots an antelope grazing in the grass a few hundred years away and says to himself, “Naaah, I’ll let that guy go, and get the next one?” A hungry lion doesn’t care if the antelope is “just looking.” He’s going to run it down and eat it. It’s a matter of survival.
