I wouldn’t say I’m loyal to that dealership by any means, but I’ve probably said more good things than bad about them because they did fix the issues I brought to their attention. I wouldn’t have bought used had I not had this “week long test drive” so to speak. Had no guarantee been in place, I would have saved the extra grand or two and bought from a private party.

Come backs are never good. People who come back for something more economical in a short period of time are bad things. It means you didn’t get it right the first time. While the policy support has been strong, the results have been mixed; in 2015 China sold around 207,000 NEVs, well short of its 500,000 goal. It varies. Specialty cars, like an Evo, are enthusiast ONLY cars. They usually know more than the sales people. It has a 1000km break-in period, and we’re not fucking with that engine. You know what you’re getting with that car, and it is… AWESOME.

When the salesman starts drawing the 4-square, say you want to negotiate on price, and price only. You can figure out your payments, etc. If he tries drawing the 4 square again, point at it and (politely) say something along the lines of “I know your general manager told you to use the 4-square, but I really don’t want to see it again. I like you as a salesman and would love to get you the commission for this sale, but we’re negotiating on final price, or not at all.”

Sorry, for the long winded introduction… my question is, when a situation like this occurs, who actually suffers at the dealership financially? I understand my constant issues were “annoying”, but did the sales rep have his commission reduced? Did the service department have to take a loss “against their numbers”? I would beg to differ. New cars sometimes have issues, recalls, etc. I went from a Geo Metro that I did routine maintenance on only, and throwing in crappy gas to a new Mazda3. The new car had to have a fuel pump replaced in the 1st month of ownership. 60k in I needed to replace one of the engine mounts. There are also TSB’s on the Mazda3 that I didn’t address (brake noise being one of them). Don’t get me wrong, I like my car. All I am saying is if a smart buyer does his/her homework then I would think that purchasing a 1-2 year old used car of a dependable product line would be a crap shoot in terms of long term maintenance of a similar product line in the long haul.
