8. Know your product. Product knowledge won’t sell cars on its own, but your customer needs to feel comfortable about spending a large amount of money. If they feel that they are working with a car salesman that doesn’t know what they are talking about you are likely to create another “Be Back” and we all know that be backs won’t be back.
Strategy 6. Put a shopping cart on your website. Online sales are still growing at a dramatic pace. This is coming from people who want to save time, avoid crowded stores, convenience, and the ability to shop outside of store hours. Just consider eBay for example, which generates millions of dollars of sales each year. It does not cost anything to set up an account on eBay, and you pay a proportion based on the cost of the item you are trying to sell. If you don’t want to use eBay, consider using your own shopping cart system on your website.

But the market is grading on a steep curve: this same SAP-Oxford study found that only 3% have completed some degree of digital transformation across their organization. Other surveys also suggest that most companies won’t be graduating anytime soon: in one recent survey of 450 heads of digital transformation for enterprises in the United States, United Kingdom, France, and Germany by technology company Couchbase, 90% agreed that most digital projects fail to meet expectations and deliver only incremental improvements. Worse: over half (54%) believe that organizations that don’t succeed with their transformation project will fail or be absorbed by a savvier competitor within four years.

Recent news of Amazon’s plans to build a second headquarters has gained mass attention for a variety of reasons. In one respect, it could bring as many as 50,000 jobs to the chosen state. But for smaller retailers worldwide, it’s signaling the growing strength of an already formidable competitor. In fact, Forrester says that 83% of U.S. adults purchased from Amazon in 2016, and an estimated one-third of online retail spending is made through the primarily online player.

I’m new to this industry on the sales side (floor sales). I’ve been a BDC manager and sales trainer. I have taken a position in a well established store and have ZERO client base. Need any and all tips I can get.
I test drove the Cx-5 a couple of months back and really liked the feel of it. Plus I just like the way it looks. I’m reading all these reviews about how something like the Ford Escape or the CRV has a neat outer design and I’m just like noooope.
If you’ve never driven a manual before, don’t start on a Porsche. Please. For the love of little black baby jebus, don’t do that to a fragile car like that. The cost of repairing / replacing the clutch alone makes my asshole pucker worse than Renee Zellwegger eating Sour Patch Kids. Again, I gotta point back to the Miata.
This tactic is an excellent way of connecting with your customers, and works as a form of indirect marketing. Online communication, especially social media, is all about two way interaction between businesses and their customers. Pose questions, such as “What is your favorite song to listen to in the car?” Join conversations on Twitter by using hashtags (relevant keywords or phrases with the # sign in front of them) and contribute useful auto information. Communicating actively with your customers online shows that your auto dealership is active and engaged with its customers, and that you value your customers’ opinions.
You will need a certain charm and magnetism. You will need to communicate interest and integrity and carefully choose words and gestures that support the sales process. If you are not able to convince prospective car buyers of the value you see in your product, success in this field will prove to be elusive.
5 Big ideas to Improve Used Vehicle Profitability in 2018 Making money in used vehicles can be a very lucrative side of the automotive business, yet most dealers leave a great deal of margin on the table with each transaction. To really be good at this side of the business, it helps to understand some of the larger economic…Continue
18. When you’re car shopping with iffy credit and you want the dealership to arrange the loan, go there while banks are open. Since the dealership will be trying to find a lender to write the loan, you’ll greatly increase your chances of getting approved for a car during “bankers’ hours.”
However, that’s not the whole story. There’s a vast discrepancy between great salespeople (who sell 20+ cars a month) and bad salespeople (who might struggle to sell 8 cars in a month). A salesperson who moves 20 cars a month is probably going to earn $6-$8k, while a salesperson who can only move 8 cars a month is likely to earn minimum wage.
Indeed thanks digital monitoring and reporting tools, we are only now understanding precisely what the automotive buyer’s journey looks like in order to take advantage of it. One of the presenters at the Google Marketing Next presentation today, Bhanu Narasimhan the Director of Audience Products, explained how nowadays the path to buy a car doesn’t start and end with a person searching “cars for sale.” Rather potential car buyers will spend time online researching a few makes and models, reading vehicle reviews, as well as watching some test-drives on YouTube before ever stepping foot in a dealership. These types of searches signal that this person is in the market for a car and about to purchase.
One last, important consideration. As a small dealership, you probably won’t have the resources to manage all the tactics involved with online marketing. Facebook marketing alone now has dozens of complex tactics, with new ones showing up almost daily.
Vehicles will know when parts are about to break and even have the ability to order a new part for preventative maintenance. (“Alexa, please order me new wiper blades!”) Updates regarding your destination will alert you before of your arrival. Construction and emergency data will notify you of potential changes ahead.
The modern day car salesman is not the salesman of legends past, they no longer rely on tricks and scams to sell cars. The men only clubs that were car dealers are going away as women are entering the profession. Women are making a difference in the car business and they can sell cars. There are many ladies out there selling cars and making a very good living. You can become a car salesman regardless of your sex and be very successful.

Hi. I’ve been studying car sales as I want to walk into an interview prepared to impress as a green pea. Can you provide me with more insight on “Sell the customer, not the desk”?. I’m not grasping this. Also, if you could tell me more about the sales person relationship to the desk, finance and management to help me maximize my commissions would make me feel like I’m not giving money away to my superiors because I’m not in the know.. It seems to be a murky area. Any advise here will be a great help. Thanks, -Kevin
4. Deliver and build. Deliver on what you said you were going to do for the prospect. Then make sure you build the relationship. Don’t expect them to stay with you or use you for other needs if you aren’t taking the time to build the relationship with them. The sales process doesn’t end with the sale.
