He says there was a time when his used-car managers would routinely offer less for a trade-in than it was actually worth — “because that’s what we do” — and sometimes lose the new-car deal in the process.
My wife melted–as wives who are businesslike but also caring are wont to do–and said, “We don’t need anyone else. You’re doing fine.” (He wasn’t, but what the heck.) “Tell me,” she asked, “have you driven one of these?”
Video marketing is making a huge comeback because of its influence on how people interact with each other. A video testimonial is even more powerful than an online review because anyone can see that you’ve got a happy ambassador who trusts you. Don’t buy these testimonials – offer happy customers something in return for some good words on film.
Companies in this industry manufacture cars and automobile chassis. These operators, which are referred to as automakers, typically produce cars, including electric cars, in assembly plants. The manufacturing of light trucks (e.g. vans, pickups and SUVs), heavy trucks and motorcycles is excluded from this industry.

Depends on the make and model. Lease is good for certain things, like if you want a low payment and don’t go on road trips / drive long distances. Buying is a commitment, so you’ll own it for AT LEAST 4 years.
Hi, I was just offered a job at a dealership and I start in a few days. I am so nervous and have no clue what I am doing. I have almost 10 years in customer service but as for sales I do not have any experience. I believe the main reason I got the job is because of my personality and the fact that I can start a conversation with anyone. Is there anything you would suggest to me being new to this? can you email me some information? firstname.lastname@example.org
While the policy support has been strong, the results have been mixed; in 2015 China sold around 207,000 NEVs, well short of its 500,000 goal. While this number more than doubled to 507,000 in 2016, at this rate it seems unlikely that the country will meet its ambitious 7m annual sales target by 2025. However, the government is keen to step up the pace. New regulations, issued on September 28th, require carmakers to gather credits for NEV sales that are equivalent to 10% of their sales volumes by 2019 and 12% by 2020. The rules apply to all carmakers that produce or import more than 30,000 vehicles a year for the Chinese market.
Traditional marketing like Pfaff’s direct mail campaign may be expensive, but its trackability continues to make it attractive. Part of the reason automotive manufacturers and retailers are hesitant to make sweeping investments in non-traditional marketing techniques is due in large part to an absence of reliable metrics. “There’s a great value in having people interact with your brand,” says Kia’s Haynes. “Unfortunately, to say that one part of [a digital campaign] is driving the sale would be pretty ambitious. Even if we could track it, we wouldn’t be able to attribute it to that one action.”
Hey guys for anyone looking to get in the car business I would highly recommend it. You definitely can not be lazy and you need to know how to be productive during the slow days/hours. I got into the business right when I turned 18 and now I am 20 selling 20 cars a month making around 10k a month. But you have to answer the phones, have great follow up and not afraid to take ups. I am just honest with customers and if they are looking at a car that I know doesn’t suit them I advise them to switch cars even if the gross is smaller on the other vehicle. Also, always ask for reviews on google mentioning your name. I am by all means no vet and learn something everyday. But personally love the business!
When people make big ticket purchases, they’ll usually want to make sure that this is the absolute best product that will fulfill their needs. By offering customer testimonials, potential purchasers will be able to see what real people had to say about your dealership, and apply it to their purchasing decision. Displaying customer testimonials on your page is an easy way to promote your product in a way that users know is genuine.
Amid this tightening of demand, local automakers have seen more successful growth in recent years: SAIC motor sold 4.9m cars in 2016, clinching the title as China’s largest carmaker by sales that year, followed by FAW Group (3.1m car sales) and Dongfeng Motor (3m car sales), although these numbers generally also include sales from their JV partnerships. Great Wall Motors, China’s largest local manufacturer of SUVs and pickup trucks and headquartered in Hebei province, also sold 1.1m vehicles in 2016.
One of the most interesting findings of this year’s survey of auto market trends was that dealerships that simply check and document marketing ROI are four times more likely to see an increase in ROI year over year. Four times!
5. Monitor. This is one of the most critical aspects of a successful sales strategy. As you move forward with your plan you must keep track of how well it is working. On the first day of each month, take a look back at the previous month. Ask yourself these questions:
Car dealerships typically require their sales people to have only a high school diploma. As is the case in most retail sectors, car salesmen tend to learn their skills via on-the-job training. A college degree may enhance employability in management roles, particularly with large dealerships or for individuals who aspire to own their own dealership.
Over 12,000 Tweeters mentioned the #winMiiwithAT hashtag, positive and negative sentiment lowering or raising the car throughout the day, and pushing almost 14m visitors to Auto Trader’s various platforms (and yes, one of them even won the car!).
I think it’s because they don’t want to count out any group. they’re afraid they’ll miss out on business if they narrow their focus. Or they think their ideal client is every client they have. They have a hard time painting a picture of the ‘ideal.’ It is a shame for sure!
These types of things might seem small, but overall, they add legitimacy to your dealership. Also, consumer will be more likely to trust you since you are putting in so much effort to help them find the answers for themselves.
MINI USA’s “the best test drive ever. Period.” campaign, created by butler, shine, stern and Partners, encouraged consumers to describe in six words a fantasy test drive of a Mini Coupe. The contest winner’s fantasy was made reality in a film that premiered online on MINI USA’s Facebook page and YouTube channel, as well as in cinemas nationwide. The campaign received 14,000 submissions, prompted MINI USA’s Twitter account to grow from zero to 19,000 followers in one month, and drove 6,000 consumers into 115 MINI USA dealerships—2,100 of which ended up purchasing a vehicle, all for a fraction of the cost of super bowl TV spots or celebrity endorsements.
Depending on the environment—protecting a musician at a concert is different from transporting the reviled CEO of a pharmaceutical company—bodyguards may or may not come armed. According to Kent Moyer, president and CEO of World Protection Group and a former bodyguard for Playboy founder Hugh Hefner, resorting to gunplay means the security expert has pretty much already failed. “People don’t understand this is not a business where we fight or draw guns,” Moyer says. “We’re trained to cover and evacuate and get out of way. The goal is no use of force.” If a guard needs to draw a gun to respond to a gun, Moyer says he’s already behind. “If I fight, I failed. If I draw a gun, I failed.”
Delivering this across 64 markets (with 24 Languages) was a big technical challenge, but it’s been a big success, with 83% of dealers using the app regularly, and enabling Volvo to keep all its staff up to date quickly with regular updates.
NEVs are also an area where Chinese firms dominate, by companies such as BAIC, BYD and JAC. Some of this reason is due to heavy policy support—local subsidies are often times (but not always) skewed to domestic firms at the expense of their foreign competitors for political purposes—but these firms have also emerged as truly innovative and well-managed companies in their own right. BYD has emerged as the world’s largest seller of electric vehicles, selling over 96,000 units in 2016; by contrast, Tesla, a well-known US electric vehicle automaker, had sold 83,922 vehicles in the same period.
This is what we call a “dollar car”. To the dealership, it’s not worth a trade in. They’ll offer you $500 as a gift. Don’t take it. They’re going to have to invest AT LEAST $1000 to recondition it, and if they can’t put it out on their lot, it’ll go to auction. They’ll lose money on it, so they won’t want it.
You could have an essay content, in which graduates can be nominated (by themselves, or someone else) as being worthy of winning the new car. There are many ways to make this type of contest profitable for your dealership, so put on your thinking cap!
I was on this site and read previous posts on National Auto Academy I took the course with National Auto Academy in NY with a trainer Chi Li and but since was working in OH I had to make the choice of moving to OH. I like the academy because they helped me find a job once I moved and it helps being part of the alumni services. Now, I would suggest this if you are trying to get into the industry but if you are still questioning the industry know that the hours are long but the earning potential is great ie the more cars you sell the more money you make. you write your own paycheck. I love the industry because I was in jobs where my effort put in did not result in a bigger paycheck… Good Luck with your decision
For some, being surrounded by a squad of serious-looking people isn’t a matter of necessity. It’s a measure of status on the level of an expensive watch or a fast car. Firms will sometimes get calls from people looking for a way to get noticed by hiring a fleet of guards when there’s no threat involved. “It’s a luxury amenity,” Schissel says. “It’s more of a ‘Look at me, look at them’ thing,” agrees Moyer. “There’s no actual threat. It’s about the show. I turn those down. We do real protection.”
If a company already has strong digital capacities, it should be able to move forward quickly, according to Ross. But many companies are still playing catch-up and aren’t even ready to begin transforming, as the SAP-Oxford Economics survey shows.
Nicolas van Zeebroeck, professor of information systems and digital business innovation at the Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management at the Free University of Brussels, says that he expects the ability to learn quickly will remain crucial. “If I had to think of one critical skill,” he explains, “I would have to say it’s the ability to learn and keep learning—the ability to challenge the status quo and question what you take for granted.”
It’s a rock of a car, 1995 Coupe Honda Civic (manual), well maintained, that still gets 35city/40hwy mpg, but has some dings (thanks to 5 years of parking garages) and the AC doesn’t work, I was honest, or even diminutive of the car when filling out the questions, and it returned just over $800.
Traditionally, the manufacturer fulfills this information gap for the buyer. This is supported by statistics uncovered by Google’s study citing “manufacturer interactions” as being the most significant touchpoint throughout the buyer journey.
Step two is properly preparing and training your staff to handle the extra traffic. With the never-ending explosion and evolution of technology, it can be easy to forget one basic fact: automotive marketing is still a people business. The face-to-face interaction between your salesperson and the customer is the lifeblood of car marketing. Providing your staff with the latest word tracks, tips, and techniques is as essential as having the right inventory. Moreover, getting your staff pumped up, excited, and energized can make the difference between an average event and a record-breaking event. This is why we are more than just an automotive marketing company – we provide on-site training as well as direct mail services.
The rising cost of safety and environmental regulations is also a concern for the industry. In the U.S., potential regulatory relaxation under the new administration has stirred at least some hope that higher costs associated with tightened emissions standards might arrive more slowly or even be avoided. However, there is a question whether a change in federal U.S. regulations would make a significant difference because individual U.S. states — and the whole of Europe — can continue to push for stricter standards. In addition, the regulatory requirements in other parts of the world are quickly catching up to those in the more regulated countries. For instance, China now has emissions standards for large cities similar to Europe’s, with only a brief (one- or two-year) grace period for smaller cities. Moreover, the real environmental challenges that underlie these trends are not going away and will ultimately have to be confronted.
As 2015 wraps up, we are already looking ahead to what the future holds for automotive marketing in 2016. We just hosted a webinar on the topic, which you can watch here, but we wanted to take the five key trends and share them today so you can get a head start on tomorrow.
Organic reach is the number of people who see your posts when you publish. For example, you have 5,000 “likes” on your page, but only 150 people on average see your posts. That’s only 3% reach, which is about average these days.
