This one by my friend Charles Cannon I love for a number of reasons. One reason is you can bet your butt no other car salesperson is handing over a book they wrote to a customer that helps them with their car buying experience.
Enthusiasts are usually what we call “strokes”, or people who will sit there for two hours jerkin you off about the car, with no real intention to buy. Managers hate them, but I tend to like them because I get to test my product knowledge and maybe learn a little more. They never buy though. Love the guys, but they never buy.
Soft selling an indecisive customer is almost sure to fail. Going over again the highlights from the test drive is a good place to start. The best place to be with this sort of customer is the negotiation desk or your equivalent. The line that sells the most cars on my lot is “aren’t you interested in what it would actually cost?” Don’t fear the harder sell to noncommittal customers, its chances aren’t the best but it’s a lot better than letting them walk off the lot and never return.
I think it’s because they don’t want to count out any group. they’re afraid they’ll miss out on business if they narrow their focus. Or they think their ideal client is every client they have. They have a hard time painting a picture of the ‘ideal.’ It is a shame for sure!
There is an alternative, of course: you can continue posting the same old awkward pictures of customers with salespeople for the rest of eternity. There’s no harm in it, really. But unless you’re satisfied with the knowledge that you’ve neglected one of the most powerful online marketing opportunities, we hope you’ll contact us about our automotive social media marketing services.
While automobile manufacturers like Kia and MINI use social channels to blast out branding and awareness campaigns for a national audience, more intimate and direct efforts occur at local levels, typically among auto retailers and dealerships. Toronto-based auto retailer Pfaff Automotive Partners used a high-tech spin for its latest marketing campaign by ad agency Lowe Roche without relying on social media. Pfaff placed white Porsche 911s in the driveways of 50 Toronto residences in tony neighborhoods as part of an innovative direct mail marketing campaign. to select the residences, Pfaff reviewed its customers’ purchasing trends and then narrowed down its list to those living in homes in the $2 million range.
While some dealers will hire a salesman with no experience, most prefer candidates to have prior experience in a sales position. Dealers want salespeople who are good communicators and have a demonstrated talent for customer service, so experience with face-to-face customer interactions is a plus. Regardless if a salesperson has prior sales experience or not, most dealerships require their new employees to complete a training program. In the training program, you’ll learn the specifics of that dealer’s operating procedures. Other topics discussed include features of different car models and the culture of the business.
One easy place to start building your target list is the Edmunds used-car inventory page. To find exactly the car you want, you can filter your search by many factors including the miles on the car’s odometer, its price and features, and dealer’s distance from you. Use the websites for other used-car marketplaces mentioned to save time.
Have an up to date driver’s license. You will need to an official driver’s license that is up to date so you can drive cars around the sales lot. You may need to move cars for customers or drive with them in the car during test drives.
Hi, my name is Sue & I’m thinking about transition into car sales. I’ve been selling vacation ownership sales for 3 years and it’s getting a bit much for me and want a fresh start at doing something else. I enjoy sales and the flexibility that comes with it. So I was thinking why not car sales? I am a woman & I have heard some unsettling stories so I was wondering what kind of advice you could offer up? I don’t really know what I’ll be getting myself into. If you could please email me firstname.lastname@example.org
13. Car buyers will pay more for a car than they need to when they believe that the value of your service and the value of the dealership outweighs the price. This is very important car selling advice and I’m not going to type it twice so read again and again until it sinks in and becomes a part of your being.
Your CRM is probably tracking the original source of traffic, such as Google or AutoTrader or others. Unfortunately, sales-based analytics says, we don’t necessarily care where all the traffic’s coming from. We care about the 50 people who bought a car this month. Where did they come from? Knowing that answer radically transforms your marketing efforts. It will also help justify your budget and strategy to managers and bosses.
18. Shut up and listen. You have two ears and one mouth so listen twice as much as you talk and learn when to shut up. See Shut-up a Car Salesman Tip the post. The power of knowing when to talk and when to shut up can make a huge difference in your car sales commission. There is a saying in the car business when negotiating that the first one to speak loses after a proposal.
Most importantly, LISTEN. Your customer will tell you what they want. Find their needs, sell to their needs, and you’ll always do fine. I find that the biggest mistake a new salesman/woman makes is they want to show off their product knowledge first, and lose sight of their customer’s interests/needs.

Sales today is all about value. Having an affordable is valuable, but adding to that value with a gift package that someone can really use will bring a lot more interest. Even something as simple as adding a stroller to the purchase of a used minivan could be enough to make a where others could not.

WHEN you have a customer with a trade in vehicle, have them follow you out as you do the appraisal, grab the info, Vin, licenceplate, milage etc, make sure the AC works, ask about fluids, when was the last time you changed your oil, Check everything that moves, windows, windshieldwipers etc. Walk arround the vehicle ask the customer if you se a dent or scratch ” soo what happened here” etc., so later when you head inside the customer will realize that maybe the car is not worth as much as he thinks.
Another crucial element in delivering an optimal website experience is your website’s speed. With the emergence of smartphones and the ability to browse from anywhere, users have become incredibly impatient when browsing online.
The only thing we had complaints about in the past, was the price of the Four Seasons rooms for our out-of-town guests. This year we have set up a deal with a close by hotel that is going to provide us with a special DealerTalk rate.
