Dwell Time will remain a high-priority item. This is the time between a user clicking on your search result, landing on your page, and then returning to the search results page. Google watches this time closely on every click to determine the quality of the page. Short dwell times are not good.

Improving the dealer model would be a plus for OEMs and a relief for customers, who by and large want a haggle-free, simple experience — and can’t seem to find one. That is why in the U.S., the auto sales program of warehouse club Costco, which represents consumers in negotiations with car dealers, has become popular. Costco assisted on almost half a million car purchases in 2015, comparable to the volume at some of the country’s top dealership groups.

One of the most interesting findings of this year’s survey of auto market trends was that dealerships that simply check and document marketing ROI are four times more likely to see an increase in ROI year over year. Four times!

Basically customers want transparency and our industry is still having a real hard time with this.   However, there are a few good examples out there and Marcus is sure to sprinkle those real life examples into this talk.

Your email marketing newsletters should have social sharing and social following buttons that allow subscribers to easily share your content with a wider audience. Whenever you send out marketing messages, think about how you can integrate that message in with your other marketing efforts.

Other than in price, there’s little reason to choose one brand over another. That means shoppers find their cars by looking at price, dealerships and types of cars (like, sedan vs. truck). With the exception of a few (most fitting into the luxury category), no one is building a true brand preference.

Everybody likes free stuff. And every dealer should like giveaways. Whether it’s a cash prize, free services (oil change, for instance) for a year, or a big discount on a new car purchase, the giveaway is a proven way to bring potential leads to a dealer lot.

To become a car salesman does not require a college degree. A high school diploma is usually required by most employers. However, considering the fact that automobiles are not easy to sell, you would need some form of training to succeed.

After WWII, it was basically defunct as US automakers wanted no part of it. Ford EVP Ernest Breech said it “wasn’t worth a damn” and its primary model, the Beetle, was considered laughable. It survived by producing cars for the British Army and gradually became the powerful European brand it is today.

In order to protect minority opinions, comment downvotes have been disabled via CSS. Without accountability, redditquette guidelines mean nothing and will only result in a combination of unconscious groupthink (the human mind naturally will try to agree with the majority opinion of the social group he identifies with) and de facto censorship (downvotes literally hide comments from view). Combined, this will lead to a cycle where only the opinions held by the majority will considered without bias.

Follow up with potential customers. After you meet a customer and get to know them, write down all of the information you learned in your CRM (customer relationship management). Then you’ll know the best time and way to reach them.[8]

13. Car buyers will pay more for a car than they need to when they believe that the value of your service and the value of the dealership outweighs the price. This is very important car selling advice and I’m not going to type it twice so read again and again until it sinks in and becomes a part of your being.

Mobile devices are rapidly changing the way that consumers research, shop and make purchases. According to the J.D. Power 2015 New Autoshopper Study, 51% of respondents said they used a smartphone or tablet to help find the make, model, price and dealership that best suited their needs.

You are well connected. A buddy of mine works in a exotic car dealership in California. His parents own about half the city in real estate, and he is super well connected. I would say he earns somewhere in the nieghborhood of 250k a year.

44. Bring along all the keys for your trade-in, with the registration, pink slip or payment bill and repair history, if you have it. If you don’t have the title nearby, that may be OK, too. Just be prepared to pay a small duplicate title fee of about $40.

*Niche brand dealerships (say Jaguar, Porsche, Land Rover, Ferrari, etc.) may or may not have a quota. It will depend on how many people they have, how big their market is, etc. They also often have lower commission rates and minimum monthly guarantees.

We like to think about it as a sales funnel. Your sales rep has a number of calls to make, a number of emails to send, a number of appointments to book and ultimately a number of sales that are generated from those activities.

But that was then. Now software has become so integral to the business that nobody can afford to walk away. Businesspeople must join the ranks of the IT consultants. “If you’re building a house, you don’t just disappear for six months and come back and go, ‘Oh, it looks pretty good,’” says Ferro. “You’re on that work site constantly and all of a sudden you’re looking at something, going, ‘Well, that looked really good on the blueprint, not sure it makes sense in reality. Let’s move that over six feet.’ Or, ‘I don’t know if I like that anymore.’ It’s really not much different in application development or for IT or technical projects, where on paper it looked really good and three weeks in, in that second sprint, you’re going, ‘Oh, now that I look at it, that’s really stupid.’”

Do not let this number fool you however, as most do not, and those that do can easily be eclipsed salary-wise by someone selling regular cars in higher numbers at a “normal” car dealership. Plus, the latter salesmen also likely gets to take a loaner car home from time to time, where as the high end salesmen is lucky to take a model for a test drive by himself.

These types of functions will make your apps consumer friendly, but they also need to benefit the dealership. Which options are right for you will depend on your dealership, but there are two things that no app can neglect if it’s going to truly benefit your dealership, “Your app must make it possible for a user to create an account…Too many dealer apps skip the account-creation step, and that means that every single time your customer wants to schedule service or a test drive—or fill out a lead—they have to re-enter all that info again. That’s a commerce killer!…[and] Your DMS MUST, MUST, MUST [sic] be integrated into your app…Because that alone ties your app functionality and communications to a user’s complete service and buying journey.”5

There’s a lot to it, but I had a bad experience with a new sales manager who threw me under the bus to please a customer who lied about their experience with me. I saw the lack of loyalty, and frankly, I hated Mercedes Benz shoppers – so pretencious and snobby – with terrible credit, no money down, and a HUGE sense of entitlement. I was at a crossroads to stay in the industry and lose my integrity, or move on. I chose the latter.

We’re all very familiar with what personalization is. When I log in to Amazon, for example, it’ll show me products that are related to things I’ve bought. So you can see that I just looked at a book called Bad Ass: Making Users Awesome, which is all about creating cool products online. Then you can see the other books that are related to things I’ve been looking at.

SimplyCast 360 already offers revolutionary and game-changing tools to the automotive industry for marketing and communication. But recently, with the release of Version 8.7 and our Contact Manager, we have…

Car sales can be a lucrative job for people with a passion and gift for the work. Most dealers pay on commission, so your income is limited only by your time and ability to make sales. The formal requirements to become an auto sales representative are often minimal, but you need to take the rights steps to prepare yourself for an opportunity.

The hands off approach — walk up to a potential customer, shake hands firmly and offer a quick greeting. Then, hand them your business card and say “Hi my name is X, here are my contact details. My desk is over there, so take a look around and when you’ve found something you like or have questions come over and I can assist you. Also, if another salesperson approaches you, inform them I am assisting you.” (The problem with this approach is your customer won’t likely feel any attachment to you, and so they may move on to someone else or leave the dealership with no information gained.)

The difference between a traditional auto event and an experiential auto show event is a bit like the difference between an advertisement and a test drive. They’re both evocative, but the test drive is a great deal more effective.

Let’s face it; at one point or another, your TV-watching experience has unfortunately been interrupted by a low-budget local car dealership commercial featuring some owner yelling special deals at a rate so fast that it’s hard to process. Needless to say, these types of advertisements aren’t very effective; if anything, advertisements like that put their dealership on your list of places to avoid.

Ha! This is kinda fun. I was waiting tables at a waterfront restaurant on the 4th of July. I had the outside area, but my section was small – maybe 4 tables, so I could manage them. I see a table looking grumpy as fuck, looking for someone. I made eye contact. Ended up taking the table out of my section, and making friends with them. Hit on the wife’s milfy friend. Got those digits. The guy was impressed, and said “You made me order a bunch of shit I really had no expection of buying, you should come work for me” and handed me card.

One particular Instagram Rich Kid, Jack Watkin, amassed a car collection worth £1.7 million after having his driving license for just a month. The fleet includes two Bentleys, two Mercedes-Benzes, one Rolls-Royce, one Porsche, and one Range Rover, all of which have seen more mileage on social media than they have on the road.
