20. Sell your customer, not the desk. The sales manager has been in your shoes and has a pretty good idea when you are selling them on why they should take the deal. Stop selling the sales manager and sell the car buyer. Remember, two people meet and one gets sold. Will you be the one doing the selling or will your customer?
Audi just launched their latest campaign promoting TDI Diesel vehicles to Americans. It’s definitely not their first attempt to raise the profile of diesel in a market where gas prices are still in the $3-$4 range and more and more options such as hybrids, electric and high-mileage gas cars continue to provide choices for the fuel conscious consumer.
Broadly speaking, OEMs have more leeway than suppliers to implement aspects of this road map — largely because they are at the top of the food chain and in a better position to influence ground rules than those below them. Given these constraints, suppliers should focus on two areas. First, they should position themselves in a profitable part of the vehicle ecosystem. Whether the end product is differentiated or a commodity, suppliers need to be sure they have the best organizational and operational capabilities for their niche in the current and future industry structure. Second, they need to optimize their business model. For suppliers of commodities, this involves a relentless focus on minimizing costs. For other suppliers that are able to differentiate their products or operations — through technology innovation, patents, an advantageous manufacturing footprint, or superior logistics and supply chains — the challenge is to build upon these assets by creatively upgrading them while enjoying the benefits of the price premium. In short, suppliers must recognize the world they inhabit and make sure that they can effectively navigate it.
Car salespersons must have excellent communication skills, be to sympathize with client’s purchasing needs, and have a resilient attitude in the face of rejection. On-the-job training is typical and the only formal education requirement is a high school diploma.

(4) Create a new multi-channel model: Tesla decided not to build a traditional car dealer network. Nobody likes car dealers: even buying and servicing a high-end car like a Porsche is a dreadful experience. Tesla looked at the car buying process and optimized its sales model to fit the way people buy cars today. Since people start online, Tesla designed their process around online information, commerce, and community. Their site is unusually clear, clean, and effective. For people who want to see the car, they are building kiosk stores in malls with Tesla experts who can’t sell cars and who aren’t commissioned. When a buyer is ready, they place a refundable deposit online. If they want to drive a car, they can arrange a test drive after they’ve placed a deposit. Essentially, Tesla is selling cars the same way Apple sells the iPhone.
You could have an essay content, in which graduates can be nominated (by themselves, or someone else) as being worthy of winning the new car. There are many ways to make this type of contest profitable for your dealership, so put on your thinking cap!
Hi, Diane! Thank you so much for the advice. You know what I applied it on my calls for the past 3 days my sales improved. I personalised my calls and created connection with the customer and Voila! created good numbers. I owe you a lot Diane! Thank you.
Certainly this needs the usage of new improvement sales strategy for automotive industry like virtual reality. For instance, this strategy enabled BMW to limit the time development of its model to about 30 months.
The consolidation and rationalization of channel activities to achieve economies of scale and eliminate inefficient operations. Large numbers of small competing dealerships impose significant cost penalties.
People don’t want to be pandered to anymore. They want to be spoken to like an investor — because frankly, that’s exactly what buying a car is: an investment! This is especially important in the digital age, as many consumers do their research online. If they’ve never set foot in your store, but discovered you on social media or search engine, you want your online presence to be a reflection of your amazing inventory and customer service.
Deposit is usually in the form of a check. It’s just basically a sign of commitment on the vehicle, although most dealerships will ask you to fill out all the paperwork before taking delivery of the vehicle. I would sign everyone up, THEN we’d do the dealer swap / port stock call up. If anything MB has a phenomenal dealer network system.
You know the drill. It’s always a hassle, even if you walk right in and point immediately to one car and say, “I’m buying that.” There are all kinds of documentation, the discussion over add-ons and, in most cases, the financing. (Dealerships make a killing on financing.)
You need to go into the dealership dressed in a nice coat/tie, and ask for the general sales manager. Let him know you are very interested in joining his/her’s sales staff, and ask for an interview. Be as professional as possible. Having an “interest in cars” means nothing, having an interest in making a good living and serving your customers means everything.
