So where is the auto industry at when it comes to digital? Let me paint a picture with some data, advertising data to be exact. If you don’t care for the numbers scroll on past the next two paragraphs.

[Stat] No matter the source, data shows these early research moments are increasingly influenced by video. In fact, of people who used YouTube while buying a car, 69% were influenced by it—more than TV, newspapers or magazines. (2)

Media measurement firm Nielsen Corp. confirmed late last year that TV viewing continues to decline across America, but it is still a core pastime in the average home. The average American adult watched four hours and three minutes of traditional live TV a day as of the third quarter of 2015. That was a decline from the same period of 2014 — but only by six minutes. Since 2013, average traditional TV is down by just 20 minutes.

Basically customers want transparency and our industry is still having a real hard time with this.   However, there are a few good examples out there and Marcus is sure to sprinkle those real life examples into this talk.

SEO is not something you just throw onto someone’s plate. It’s a highly-specific service that requires customization, constant updates, and extreme care. And that’s exactly what you’ll get from Wikimotive.

If you buy a used car that is no longer covered by the manufactures warranty, you are at risk for expensive repairs. That’s why CarBuyingTips.com recommends that you get an extended warranty any time you are in this situation. In our extended warranty section, we review high quality warranty sites like CARCHEX and a strong competitor of theirs, Warranty Direct. Both of these companies offer extended warranties at much lower prices than you will find at dealerships. If you buy a 3 or 4 year old used car, chances are that the manufacturer’s warranty has expired and you will be liable for the repair costs. Don’t be fooled by high mileage “powertrain” warranties as these do not cover most common problems. Do your research to determine what is actually covered by the manufacturer and what isn’t.

Republic appears to recognize these second-stage requirements, at least in used cars. In April 1998, Republic acquired Driver’s Mart Worldwide Inc. The Driver’s Mart concept is not the same as AutoNation’s; it features more participation by the local operator, improved selling and reconditioning processes and smaller lots with lower inventory. Republic is also experimenting, through AutoNation, with a format called Value Stop (older cars, lower prices) and a dedicated center in Houston for used trucks, vans and sport utility vehicles.

Drive with Uber and earn money anytime it works for you. Driving is an easy way to earn extra, it’s totally flexible around your schedule. You decide when and how much you drive. What you need to …

Most vehicle manufacturers in the United States and Europe have done benchmarking studies of Republic Industries and AutoNation. Some, such as G.M., the Ford Motor Company, Mercedes-Benz and the Nissan Motor Company, have entered into formal franchise agreements or even business relationships with Republic. A few manufacturers, such as the Honda Motor Company, Toyota Motor Corporation and Nissan, resisted Republic’s overtures at first in the courts and with state agencies. Yet each has come to terms in one way or another with Republic.

It varies. Specialty cars, like an Evo, are enthusiast ONLY cars. They usually know more than the sales people. In fact, I’ve seen on more than one occaision, a sales person get completely schooled by an enthusiast and blow the sale. With that being said, Evos dont’ get test drives. Sorry. It has a 1000km break-in period, and we’re not fucking with that engine. You know what you’re getting with that car, and it is… AWESOME.

Market Convergence, Regionalization and Globalization- because of the influence of liberalization, nationwide markets are rapidly globalized. This provides business a possibility to expand to latest markets, however also improves the risk of new candidate or improved rivalry in typical markets.

The difference between a traditional auto event and an experiential auto show event is a bit like the difference between an advertisement and a test drive. They’re both evocative, but the test drive is a great deal more effective.

Most importantly, we are automotive professionals. We know the industry because we are currently active in the automotive business and have the real world experience and knowledge to help you succeed. We want to teach others to thrive in this industry as well as enjoy it. We are here to help.

Truth? Sell your vehicle privately. You’ll make about 10% more. The trade is a way for you to offset the cost of the new car. It is calculated AFTER your taxes, tag, dealer prep, and all the rest. Most of the time, the value of the car barely offsets those things. Sad reality, unfortunately.

Some people want the peace of mind that comes with extended warranties, so this is something you might want to consider (unless the car is still under the manufacturer’s warranty or is a CPO vehicle). Review the dealership sales contract thoroughly. In most states, it lists the cost of the vehicle, a documentation fee, possibly a small charge for a smog certificate, sales tax and license fees.

Looking at cross-border payments, for example, blockchain can be used to reduce processing time to minutes from standard times of three to six days. This elevates the customer experience to a new level with lower cost real-time transactions. Stack processes improved by blockchain include clearing networks; international transfers; clearing and settlement; auditing, reconciliation, and reporting; and asset ownership.

Chevrolet’s Silverado saw a 17.6% year-to-year increase in the US, while it’s other truck, the Colorado, fell off the map. Ford’s Escape and Explorer are nearly identical except in size and price. Yet, the Explorer (the larger and more expensive of the two) has seen sales rise 27.4% while the Escape has dropped 5.7%. Where’s the brand preference in that? Rebranding automobiles puts the brand preference front and center.

“There are examples where the big buying organization has put their contractors on their knees, and they go bankrupt and the big buyer is in trouble. (See my story on Zurich Re and supply chains) We are decoupling this. If you as a big buyer approve the invoice, then we are able to finance it regardless of your payment capabilities, and that is helping the smaller organizations or suppliers.”

On film and TV shoots, there are rarely leftovers. In fact, good food stylists often compete with the caterers: Actors usually have to eat the food during their scenes, and the crew finishes off the scraps. While shooting a Chinese New Year scene for the show Fresh Off the Boat recently, actress Lucille Soong told Oliver, who was styling that episode, that she was going to skip lunch because she wanted to enjoy eating her food on camera. “That was pretty freaking Oliver says.

By collecting specific responses from prospects through an auto dealership survey, you have the chance to intelligently approach them without appearing too pushy. For example, if you know your prospect-family owns a dog, you could customize a collar and send it across to the family by adding a note that says “he is going to love taking family vacations in *whatever car they were interested in buying* ”.

These tools can help you find critical keywords to target with your blog and on-page content. They allow you to see what’s working and what’s not. These kinds of analytic tools are critical for any digital-marketing strategy.

Every decision maker can access the data and embedded analytics they need to directly guide business processes to quickly take advantage of emerging opportunities and mitigating risks head-on. They can measure physical store and online sales, shopping behavior, consumer loyalty, and transaction trends in one view, which can be more meaningful than analyzing these metrics separately. And they can do so using the mobile device of their choice to maintain that insight wherever they are.

Through in-house training programs: most dealerships have training programs for newly recruited staff. To qualify for such programs, you should have completed a professional training either in commercial or technical area or both, such as a vocational training as a car salesman.

Hi, I was just offered a job at a dealership and I start in a few days. I am so nervous and have no clue what I am doing. I have almost 10 years in customer service but as for sales I do not have any experience. I believe the main reason I got the job is because of my personality and the fact that I can start a conversation with anyone. Is there anything you would suggest to me being new to this? can you email me some information? leeann_abshire@yahoo.com

Now that we see serious cracks in the walls protecting the traditional automotive distribution model, what will the future bring? Both the underlying drivers of change in automotive retailing and the trends already under way help answer that question. In addition, it is helpful to compare the automobile industry with other industries that have experienced distribution-channel evolution and look at the lessons they learned.

Offload more development work to technology suppliers. Many automotive companies are highly involved in developing the new technologies their customers want — whether it is the human–machine interface for infotainment, autonomous features, or the components for electrification. OEMs need to identify which aspects of a vehicle’s digital features they can hand off to tech industry partners that have more expertise in designing and producing digital components and software.

Top quality merchandise attracts top quality salespeople who know how to interact with customers with lots of money. The money and the cream of the people working in any business tend to rise to the top.

“Because of automotive resource sites like Edmunds and NADA, consumers have the same amount of data and access that dealers do. They can now both get up-to-date information on pricing, availability and competitors FAST.”

Because Oliver works on multiple TV shows in a single day, if an item doesn’t get used on set and never comes out of her cooler, she can just take it back to her shop and recycle it for use on another show. If something can’t be used again, she’ll take it home and make salsa or jam. “When it gets really old, I’ll just stick it in vodka,” she says.

Working with Paxton has been amazing since we switched all of our direct mail marketing to them earlier this year. Ever since moving my marketing to Paxton, my ups, deliveries and traffic have pretty much doubled and in some cases tripled—I would have never thought that was possible as a staffed event company, but, I’ve see the results and I would never use anyone else. Automotive direct mail still works and Paxton seems to understand how to navigate these tricky waters. Not only do they have slick marketing pieces already built, but Paxton let’s me propose my own ideas and they make them a reality. How many other automotive marketing companies can you call and actually speak to the owner directly pretty much anytime of the day or night? I’ve only had this experience with the Paxton team and I cannot recommend them enough.

You said your company was full disclosure. If a company tries to use the four-square technique, how would I go about persuading them to fully disclose their profits as well as how I would read it? Would their be a line items for how much profit they would be getting for the sale at the current price?

We offer highly targeted prospecting products and services to maximize the effectiveness of your automotive marketing efforts. Understanding who is in the market to buy a vehicle, what vehicle they will likely purchase and if they are financially able to make the purchase is insights we can bring to your business.

There are really only two ways to sell cars and you can profit either way, but only one is for a long standing career, with a steadily increasing income and the ability to sleep well at night, with a clear conscience.

Take your average car buyer: Let’s assume he or she is not a practiced negotiator. In fact, the prospect of a lively negotiation makes him cringe. The balance is already beginning to tip into the other party’s favor. The less tolerance you have for the emotional stress of negotiating, the quicker you’re likely to settle, says Michel Tuan Pham, professor of business at Columbia University. “It pushes you to seek closure to get rid of those bad feelings,” says Pham.

• Make sure the showroom experience is a positive one. Build a waiting area or lounge as it adds to the leisure, and provides a sense of comfort to customers when they walk in. And if most of the visitors are parents who bring their kids along, design a small children’s play area. This is one simple yet effective manner to drive engagement and gain the complete attention of the customer.

• Make all necessary details available online. The models you sell, the prices, the features, the necessary documents, the perks – everything. Whatever info they could receive by walking into your showroom, must be made available for the customer to access from the comfort of their homes.

Study up on car makers and models. Research car makers and models, including this year’s models. Note which makers and models your local auto dealerships are selling. Make sure you know the prices and specs of the models in detail. Write down this information, study it, and try to memorize it so you can recite it off hand to customers and employers.[4]

The foundation of your Dealer.com solution, Seamless Websites provide you with a fully optimized digital dealership experience. I’m new I car sales and my dealership has a great program for Internet leads. Could you provide information on how to get these prospects out from hiding behind their computer to calling me or setting appointment to come to the lot?

Sometimes food stylists are expected to create sci-fi props—what would a person eat in the year 3000?—or fantasy items that they have no experience with. While working on the TV show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Oliver made gooey, edible slime from her imagination. “I also had to roll with the [actors’] different dietary needs,” she says. “I had to be able to make vegan slime, sugar-free slime, gluten-free slime, gelatin-free slime … Slime, any way you want it.”

Another way your dealership can be relatable is to make consumers feel as much like they’re in control as possible. You want to answer consumer questions or inquiries before they even think to ask them. On your social media pages, post pictures of your actual showroom so that consumers have an idea of what they’ll look like.

If a salesperson has a dry spell, some dealerships will let them draw against their commissions until they can pay it back. In car sales lingo, this is called being “in the bucket.” McDonald says, “Once you get in the bucket, it can be very hard to get out. You could owe $4,000 or $5,000 after two or three months. When that happens, the only thing you can do is quit.”

Overall, becoming a car salesman is a great way to earn a living and to do something you can enjoy rather than dread like other jobs. Just like any job or career there will be some aspects that you won’t like, but that is part of every job no matter what you do. Car sales people get paid a commission for what they sell and so their pay may fluctuate week to week. However if your irregular paycheck was always more than a steady paycheck which would you prefer. Becoming a car salesman could be just the ticket for the person that wants the opportunity to make a nice big car sales salary without working their life away. Learn more about how to be a car salesman.

#1 Cochran, based in Monroeville with 21 dealerships generating $550 million annually, owned two Saturn dealerships and is betting that simplifying car buying will allow it to capitalize on volume sales instead of profit margin from any one car.

Sometimes a car dealer may tell you that it already sold your trade-in, and will offer you the value of the trade-in as listed on the purchase contract.  The language of the purchase contract does not appear to give the car dealer this option.  It requires the return of the trade-in.  However, if the car dealer does sell your trade-in, at the very least, you should tell the car dealer that it has to give you whatever is the highest value for your trade-in out of either (1) the value of the trade-in as listed on the purchase contract, (2) the fair market value, or (3) what the car dealer received when it sold your trade-in.

Fact: Multi-channel automobile marketing, which means using direct mail, emails, sales, pay per click, etc., is the best way to cover all the bases when it comes to advertising. Everyone is different. Some prospects will be influenced by one channel, while others will not be affected at all.

Some customers will come in and refuse to talk monthly payments. They may only want to talk about the total price of the car. In that case, if you are unable to lower the price of the car in order to complete the sale, offer them extra features such as 12 months road tax at no extra cost or other features that you can add that will make the price seem more fair for the customer but won’t cost you much.[3]

Today’s consumers, baby boomers and millennials alike, have far more sophisticated taste. They expect a lot more out of dealerships than some obnoxious inflatable tube men or painted letters that spell out “SALE” underneath the hoods of your cars.

Koenig sells about 90 new and used vehicles a month. He says radio and TV get the lion’s share of his ad budget to compete in his market, which is heavily tilted toward working families, college students from nearby Southern Illinois University and lower-income demographics.

Extending your brand throughout the community is important, especially if you’re competing with major dealerships who have acres of space. Get some vehicles branded and have them drive throughout your community to extend some awareness. You can use vehicles that you’ve got ownership of or you can pay folks a small stipend to have your branding on their vehicles.

Depends on the make and model. Lease is good for certain things, like if you want a low payment and don’t go on road trips / drive long distances. Buying is a commitment, so you’ll own it for AT LEAST 4 years.

No one is suggesting, though, that auto dealers will disappear. Ironically, changes in cars and trucks themselves are making dealers more important. Consumers have more choices of brands and models than ever before. Improved durability and reliability and faster design cycles have narrowed the differences among competing products in the same category. Brand loyalty increasingly derives not from the product itself but from the total purchase and ownership experience. Numerous studies show that customer satisfaction has become a much more critical competitive differentiator and a greater inþuence on repurchase loyalty than the car itself. And it is the dealer that controls these levers today. (See Exhibit II.) This explains the intense efforts many vehicle manufacturers have made to set standards for, measure and even base some dealer compensation on customer satisfaction scores.

Alex was born into the car business. His family owns a group of stores in Virginia where he held a multitude of positions since he first cut the grass there in 1989. DealerRefresh caught his attention in 2006 and he has been a part of the community ever since. In 2010 Alex joined Dealer.com to help put a dealer’s spin on products; where he got a front row seat to converse with over 13,000 dealers and watch 2 acquisitions totaling over $5 Billion. Today, Alex lives in Vermont and works to make DealerRefresh amazing!

For example, some salespeople swear by holding on to keys for a trade-in negotiation as they run back and forth between multiple rounds of “let me ask my manager.” They think they’re engaging in a foolproof sales tactic, while they’re failing to hear the customer say “I’d like to leave, please give me my keys back.” Don’t be that person.

As a car salesman, you might work for a new car dealer, which is often called a franchise dealer. The majority of revenue produced by new car dealers is from the sale of new vehicles, but many also provide leasing options or sell some used cars. Most franchise dealers specialize in a particular company’s vehicles, which could include several different brands and various makes and models, such as cars, vans and SUVs.

The best lingo appears when a customer is on the fence about buying a car: That’s when, sometimes, dealerships will insist they take the car home for the night. This is called “puppy-dogging.” Mark McDonald, a career car salesman and author of the “Car Salesman Confidential” column at MotorTrend.com, explains: “When customers show it to their friends and neighbors, they will make such a fuss over it—just as they would a new puppy—that they’ll have no choice but to buy it.”

If you still want to become a car salesman you might ask where should I apply to be a car salesmen. Just pick-up the classifieds and look under the help wanted section. Some dealerships will even provide you with their car salesman job description for a better understanding of the duties and responsibilities. Check the automotive section and I am sure you will find a handful of car dealers that are looking for car salesmen. Dealerships rarely require anything more than a high school diploma because you receive a car salesman education from the dealership. The turnover in the car business is quite brisk so I am sure will find some dealers that are looking to add a car salesman or two. If you have the desire and the mental fortitude to become a car salesman then start talking to some car dealers, have an interview and begin your car sales training because you can be a great car salesman and a successful car salesman. More importantly, lets sell more cars.

Regardless of whether or not a newly hired salesperson has prior sales experience, most dealerships require that new employees complete a training program. Coursework normally covers the dealership’s business culture, general operating procedures and systems, customer sales and service techniques, negotiation strategies, and car model features. Once hired and trained, new recruits will for a time work very closely with a seasoned salesperson to learn the details and nuances of the job.

High-profile celebrities maintain their visibility by engaging their social media users, which often means posting about their travels and events. For fans, it can provide an interesting perspective into their routine. For someone wishing them harm, it’s a road map. “Sometimes they won’t even tell me, and I’ll on Snapchat they’ll be at a mall at 2 p.m.,” Kalaydjian says. “I wouldn’t have known otherwise.”

Out of the three car companies that you sold, do you have some pros and cons for each? Or perhaps strengths and weakness for those companies, just curious about your perceptions of those brands after selling them.

This business can be a funny one and it also has its own language. If you want to start your first day at the dealership and not be viewed as a total “Green Pea,” then you’ll want to know what the heck everyone is talking about.

Such organizations are not building in the capacity for change; they’re trying to get away with just doing it once rather than thinking about how they’re going to use digitalization as a means to constantly experiment and become a better company over the long term.

Customers aren’t the only ones who benefit from better processes. Among the 100 companies the SAP-Oxford Economics researchers have identified as digital leaders, two-thirds say that they are making their employees’ lives easier by eliminating process roadblocks that interfere with their ability to do their jobs. Ninety percent of leaders surveyed expect to see value from these projects in the next two years alone.

Boy, this is a boring suggestion, isn’t it?  You’re probably reading this article because you’re looking for some badass Kung Fu moves to instantly incapacitate any salesman you meet.  But boring or not, establishing good credit is the best thing you can do to strengthen your bargaining position.

Part of your job may be to sell them those extra features like the navigation system, heated and cooled seats, blind spot detection, extended warranty plan, etc. Selling these extra features to your customers will be much easier if you learn what they need and what they want.

I’ve been following Marcus for the last few years and his story about turning his swimming pool company around back in 2008 using content marketing is one of my favourites.  Marcus brought some real interesting perspectives to what he though was wrong in the car business.   If you aren’t reading his Sales Lion blog you need to start.

Actively using the listing in a professional environment is a great opportunity to generate promotion for vehicle leasing and other business services.

If they consume video and Google’s study confirms this, produce videos, too. You can then embed them on your website and attract users from search engines, which will improve site experience. Also, be sure to upload them to your YouTube channel for additional exposure.

When you look into CRM software take note of what training resources are available.  The biggest problem dealerships have implementing CRMs is a lack of consistent use from all staff.  You want something robust, but also something new salespeople can pick up quickly.  A complicated system with features you don’t need will hinder use.

As many large corporations delay payments to suppliers stretching out well beyond 30 days to 60, 90 or even 120, electronic invoicing firms, B2B payments and financial companies like MasterCard are stepping into the payment gap, largely bypassing banks.

In order to attract more buyers in 2016 and beyond, you have to adapt your business to take advantage of the digital world. The automotive marketing strategies of old simply aren’t as effective, and will soon be completely obsolete as more millennials enter the market.

Come backs are never good. People who come back for something more economical in a short period of time are bad things. It means you didn’t get it right the first time. It means you didn’t ask the right questions. It means you fucked up for the deal, and instead of a happy return customer, you’ll have explain the intracacies of depreciation in the parking lot. It’s not a pleasant experience. So get it right the first time, every time.

2016 is going to be about personalizing our content, targeting the right people with our messages, diversifying our content, measuring based on sales and improving our processes and accountability. If you’re a manager or a marketer, these are important trends for you.

While it’s early and many many risks remain, Tesla is the first company to have the potential to become the Apple computer of the car industry. Like Apple, they are selling a product that is very different than what has come before. Both companies focus on great products and innovation. They are both building their own ecosystem (Tesla’s super charger network is akin to Apple’s build-out of iTunes and the Apple Store) and both are challenging traditional sales models with their own direct distribution system. In fact, Tesla hired Apple’s previous retail chief to build out the new distribution model.

This leads to our third trend: Diversified Content. We are often told as automotive marketers that we need to create blog posts, post on social media, get reviews and use many more platforms. It can feel very overwhelming.

Your attitude is very bad at this point and you look for any little reason to justify in your head a reason to quit. You speak with others in the business at other car dealerships and they tell you how much better it is where they are at. Problem is, if you go there you will be starting back at stage #1. If you don’t fix your problem mentally you will be right back where you’re at right now!

As we discussed, social media is not about blatantly advertising how great you are but rather should be geared towards creating content to engage consumers. However, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t promote your sales and promotions. Everyone loves a deal and discounts so promote away. Be creative and reward your social followers with promotions and contests only available on your Facebook page or other social accounts.

The usual education level for a car salesman is a high school diploma. Potential car salesmen with high school diplomas can give themselves an edge by taking a few classes in sales or marketing. According to the Princeton Review, college coursework in psychology, finance, and public speaking is becoming more common.

For example, business managers must learn how to think in terms of a minimum viable product: build a simple version of what you have in mind, test it, and if it works start building. “You don’t build the whole thing at once anymore.… It’s really important to build things incrementally,” Ross says.

Here’s what we mean. What if there were specific TV spots aimed at college seniors as they are about to graduate? The spots would only run in the late spring, and could also be targeted to parents of graduating students.

Dealerships need to start having intelligent conversations when it comes to creating and maintaining vendor relationships. If they do not take the time to do the research, they will be paying too much, no matter how it’s measured.

Now that you’ve read the salary page and have had a chance to see how much money can be made selling cars you’re probably eager to get started… Selling cars is not as easy as simply meeting a buyer, going on a test drive and signing some contracts. It can be, but it’s usually not the case.

While many view a career in auto sales as a job filled with long hours and the need to employ hard closing techniques to anyone and everyone who walks through the dealership doors, a career in auto sales can be a very rewarding job.

FYI: The preconcieved stereotype of a sleazy car salesman falls apart when dedication to service and professionalism shines through Car dealers have always battled against negative stereotypes. These perceptions stem…

Hi Hanna. Thanks for the additional information. It sounds like you haven’t developed trust yet, so they aren’t interested in hearing from you. My suggestion is to set up a plan to reach out to clients to find out what’s going on with them and what they need (especially those things you DON’T provide). Don’t ‘sell’ them – just get to know them. We all have to build relationships with our clients in order for them to want to hear anything we have to say.

Chrysler does better with Dodge and Jeep. The latter has especially become a powerful brand because it expresses an idea: adventure, with a typical Jeep Wrangler promotion saying, “Adventure can happen anywhere.” That’s who you are when you drive a Jeep. Someone on an adventure.

How often are car buyers very informed? Like when you’re selling an Evo, how often is it the buyer is a real enthusiast looking for something fun vs some douchefuck that saw fast and furious and wants to add 20 turbos and 1000 shot of NOS to it? In the same boat, how often would an enthusiast come look at special cars like AMG cars or Evos just to come see them and oggle (I use to do this when the STi came to America, thinking I would never have money to have one)? Does this make most car salesman mad? Would you rather deal with an enthusiast who knows what he’s talking about or a soccer mom?

However, if none of these factors cause angst or concern, and if you have the ability to sell anything to anyone, you could become a car salesman. It would be wise to keep in mind, however, that a car salesman is not only trying to sell a vehicle, he is also competing against everyone else with whom he works. It is not a friendly environment, but for those who possess the needed talents, it can be lucrative.

“Credit card players have a good chance to play a role in SME finance if they become more flexible and learn to work with these mid-sized companies that do not have sophisticated accounts payable and accounts receivable systems. And they will have to rethink their pricing.”

If you’ve got a unique item on your lot that draws attention to your business, then you’ve got a marketing idea that will continue to pay off every time people see it. Some used car dealerships put old firetrucks on their lot with their ladders extended. It could be a classic car, and old car, or a famous replica of a movie car. As long as it fits with your personality, you’ll have a good marketing item.

West-Herr ranks No. 23 on Automotive News’ list of the top 125 dealership groups in the United States with retail sales of 17,933 new vehicles in 2011. The group also sold 13,887 used cars and trucks in 2011.

I’m up in Canada, so I don’t know what the finance rates and such are like down south of the border, but right now on a 2013 Pathfinders all we have a subvented rate of 3.9% if you finance, but no discounts from the manufacturer at all on the price. Even if you pay cash or finance the cost to the dealership is exactly the same.

Since luxury car buyers tend to have a larger income, they want to know where they can get their new set of wheels quickly and efficiently. If you’re a dealership that sells luxury vehicles, you need to keep this in mind. Time is money!

(ii)Google has also released a report identifying latest trends and how they impact car purchasing behaviour. Find out what they are and what you should know by downloading ‘‘What These 3 Auto Trends Mean For Brands’‘.

Most rewarding part? I took pictures of everyone I sold a car to. They were ALWAYS happy. On their 1 year anniversary of their purchase, I would send them a card with the picture. I got more repeat and referral business from stuff like this. I called people 30 days after purchase to make sure they were happy. Again, more referrals. The key is that once the sale is over, that’s when the real work begins. Followup is the key to more sales. Happy customers are the most valuable commodity in the world.

I wouldn’t say I’m loyal to that dealership by any means, but I’ve probably said more good things than bad about them because they did fix the issues I brought to their attention. I wouldn’t have bought used had I not had this “week long test drive” so to speak. Had no guarantee been in place, I would have saved the extra grand or two and bought from a private party.

Another study from Digital Air Strike TM, released in November 2012, helped answer that question directly. Their survey asked what consumers wanted most on a dealership Facebook page. They found, “when visiting dealer Facebook sites, car buyers have clear ideas about what they want to see. The top five items cited as valuable on Facebook pages included, in priority order: dealership service promotions such as coupons or discounts, pictures of cars, sales promotions, reviews from consumers about the dealership, articles about cars and/or car care tips.”4

I’ve been cars now for a little over three years. I honestly believe I owe it all to National Auto Academy. I took a class with them when I first started and it is still helping me to this day. Unfortunately most managers don’t have much time to teach you, so I see most of the new guys just being thrown on the floor with barely any training. A bunch of us went through the academy and we’re still making money years later. Just a thought, but you might want to look them up and take a class. This is a tough business to learn on your own.

Whether you are new to the car business and selling cars for a living or you have been doing it for years these car salesman tips will help you sell more cars and make more commissions. Selling cars to the public is not like any other retail job and not everyone is cut out to be a car saleswoman or a car salesman. Some people may already have some of the skills needed to be a successful car salesman and the others can learn what they need to know to become more successful and ultimately make more and larger car sales commissions.

50. If you are still paying off your trade-in, complete your deal before the next payment’s due date, especially if you’re leasing, since those payments are typically for the month to come. There’s no reason to pay for a car that you won’t be using.

The similarity to having many OEMs and suppliers producing virtually the same automobile transmissions is clear. An approach like the aircraft industry’s may lead to potentially more valuable auto partnerships than platform sharing: namely, jointly manufacturing vehicles. This, too, is already happening in isolated cases. The difficulty of eking out profits from small cars long ago prompted Toyota and Groupe PSA to share production at a plant in Kolin, in the Czech Republic. Similarly, we have seen rebadging across brands in markets where sales volume is low. For instance, Renault, Nissan, and GM have been cooperating in manufacturing some light commercial vehicles, virtually identical products sold under three different brands.

Car salesman training tips are usually so focused on how to speak to people, that they forget to include an important fact: you need to know what you’re talking about. Prove to the customer that you’re more than “just” a fast-talking salesperson — you know your inventory inside and out and can share fascinating information. Take the time to educate yourself regularly and you’ll find your knowledge builds trust with customers.

Size of the business is no longer a basis of success. Only those companies which find ways to make value will get on in the years to come. Here is the short summary of automotive industry at this moment, the challenges facing the business. Based on this standpoint, some sales strategy for automotive industry that allowing them to transform for the big competition.

As a result of the high-cost, low-satisfaction proposition provided by the traditional dealer channel in general, many players have recently moved to capitalize on opportunities afforded by improving the channel-value equation. Entrepreneurs with access to public capital have strategic designs to modernize auto distribution. Six dealer groups in the United States went public in 1996-7. Collectively they soared past the $4 billion mark in revenue in 1997, up by more than 30 percent from 1996, with most of the growth coming from additional acquisitions of existing dealers.

KBB.com has them listed private party with 128k for around $12,000. Again, I’m going to advise against it. The repairs cost on an import like that is going to exceed the value within the first two years. Please consider as an alternative, a Saturn Sky Redline (turbo 4 cabriolet) or a Pontiac Solstice. Also, the Mazda Miata is a fantastic car, and has a HUGE aftermarket, while being incredibly reliable, and very inexpensive.

Savings could come from selling via Web channels. In the U.S., OEMs are barred from bypassing dealerships, a prohibition that electric carmaker Tesla is campaigning to eliminate. Rather than opposing Tesla, as some auto makers have, U.S. OEMs should view this potential change as an opportunity to innovate. OEMs are finding that as customers use the Internet to research car purchases, they do less shopping in person. Car buyers are now visiting between one and one-and-a-half dealers before buying a car, compared with visiting four or five a generation ago. Using analytics to assess this data for demographic and location trends, auto makers hope to gain savings from inventory and dealer facilities management. They can target customer preferences more effectively and place the appropriate mix of retail formats in the right areas.

Pros: Good quality in everything but the C Class. Cars hold their value really well. The S Class at present is what the future of automotive innovation will be 10 years from now. Seriously. Everything you see in that car now is amazing, and will become the standard in the next generation of cars that cost 1/10th the price.

As purchasing decisions continue to shift online, marketing and sales teams will have to follow suit. Consumers are conducting more research through digital and mobile channels, and the customer experience they receive as they engage with automotive brands will determine which vehicle and dealership they will choose.

Outsell is the first company to bring Machine Learning to the automotive market. Our NeuroMotics® Brain is at the core of everything we offer, predicting consumer behavior, powering targeted communications, precisely identifying in-market buyers, and enhancing your dealership’s bottom line.

This is another unfamiliar skill that smart managers are trying to pick up. “There’s a lot of trial and error in the best companies right now,” notes MIT’s Ross. But there’s a catch, she adds. “Most companies aren’t designed for trial and error—they’re trying to avoid an error,” she says.

Hi Hanna. That’s hard to do without knowing more about your situation. like – what are you selling? What are you currently doing? What is working, what isn’t, what part of the process are you struggling with? If you can tell me more i may be able to shed some more light specific to your situation.

The Auto Marketing Blog is a marketing blog analyzing various companies and their brand engagement online. It looks at efforts that affect sales, new product launches, viral campaigns, social media usage, online media choices, brand lift, and other related advertising . Within these entries I will not only share opinions on what I think brands are doing wrong (or right), but will also provide ideas to further enhance efforts that may improve your own marketing decisions.

That question gets at the crux of the whole matter. If it’s based on brand, then the hurdle of the dealership doesn’t matter. If it’s a type of car (say, you’re looking for a gas-saving sedan), then the dealership poses a larger problem.

My advice: don’t wait until you desperately need a car to start shopping for one.  If you have a vehicle with 150,000 to 250,000 miles on it, you’re going to have SUBs (Sudden Unexpected Breakdowns).  Along with those come SUHEXes (Sudden Unexpected Huge Expenses).  So start preparing to buy a new (or newer) vehicle today.  Read reviews in Motor Trend, talk to your bank or credit union about financing, ask your friends if they know of a good salesperson, and start setting aside a little money for a down payment.

This is more of a side note, but still an important tactic to utilize when planning marketing efforts for your dealership. Instead of having a social media presence that everyone can contribute to, try and indicate one or two people to do the postings. This way, marketing efforts don’t get lost in translation and there is no miscommunication. The person who is appointed to manage all social media channels, email marketing, and platform tracking will know that they are accountable for the job, leading to a greater output and larger social media presence.

So after hosting 3 of these conferences I haven’t been moved as much by any speaker as I was by Marcus Sheridan.  Okay, that’s a lie.  Theo Fleury was unreal last year but it’s pretty hard to compare those two topics.

Not all states require automobile salesmen to be licensed, so you should check the requirements in the state they wish to work in. For example, automobile salespeople in California are required to pay a fee and submit an application to the Department of Motor Vehicles. Salespeople in Colorado must pass an exam and remit a bond, in addition to completing an application and paying a fee.

I’m finishing my 2nd week at my 1st job on a car lot right now. I’ve learned that you can’t be someone that gets discouraged easily, people will lie and they don’t really like you. Other salespeople especially as a “Green” Don’t like you. This is a job you have to be motivated and driven to succeed in. I welcome the challenge.

This tool allows you to create a link that can be used throughout a campaign, whether it’s an email, a landing page, social media message, etc. This link will group all traffic and conversions. You can take things a step further by not only grouping by campaigns at a high level, but also by viewing the tools that had the greatest success. For example, you would see that the tires email brought 80% of the overall tires traffic while social media and landing page clicks only brought 20%.

If the car dealer exercises its right to cancel the purchase contract within 10 days, you are not required to sign a second contract to purchase that same car.  Let me repeat this.  A car dealer cannot force you to sign a second contract.  If the car dealer cancels the purchase contract with 10 days, you are obligated to return the car, and the car dealer must give you back any down payment or trade-in that you gave with the purchase.

No matter what business you work in, a “business as usual” mindset will insure your competitors are making more money than you are. Here are eight tips to help you stand out from the competition so you won’t find yourself stood up by your customers.

1. Increased number of likes and comments on each and every post from local users. This puts your brand in front of more and more potential car buyers who will see you in high regard thanks to the quality content they see from your dealership on Facebook.

We’ve stood on a soapbox before about social media in relation to car dealers, and we also believe that online marketing is often missed out on in car dealer circles, but don’t get the wrong idea. We’re not telling car dealer owners that they shouldn’t be using traditional marketing as well, just that they need to broaden their marketing scopes, or fall behind other dealers who are willing to take the risk and learn about this new online strategy that’s exploding into marketing.

The first step of any effective automotive marketing campaign is getting potential customers off the couch and into your dealership.  Generating high volume quality traffic is essential to automotive marketing success.  Not only does a showroom full of people provide your sales staff with more sales opportunities, it also creates an exciting, energetic environment.  Creating this “buying frenzy” atmosphere is the key to high-impact marketing success, but it is something the average automotive marketing company cannot accomplish.

99 of 100 automotive shoppers begin their purchase journey expecting it to be a “hassle” driven in large part by their experience, and that of friends/family, with retailers seeking to control the buying process to the retailer’s objectives.

For businesses in general, and auto dealerships especially, the social web has created both pitfalls and opportunities. The number of ways to communicate with the customer has given dealers the opportunity to connect with customers at exactly the right moment when they’re ready to buy, but by the same token, dealers now need to be prepared to communicate with customers effectively on a variety of different platforms and convince them to buy from their dealership. Unfortunately, many of the best practices for social media are still being worked out and you will often hear conflicting advice.

Successful sales is a deliberate, thoughtful activity. You need a process that you initiate over and over again. Whenever I talk with small business owners or salespeople who aren’t realizing the results they desire, the cause is usually the same: They don’t have a sales strategy.

Get your marketing managers, back-end developers, writers, and a few salespeople into a room. Pinpoint the problems in the marketing strategy and what needs to change. Host two or three meetings with your team to find solutions and assign tasks with a deadline in place.

My dealership, Friendly Chevrolet in Fridley, MN, has been the No.1 Chevy dealer in our district for 16 years running. We leverage digital marketing. It has helped boost monthly sales by an average of 10 to 15 vehicles. That is more than 10% of our sales volume.

Car salesmen, or automobile retail salespersons, assist customers in the evaluation and purchase of automobiles. They may watch and greet customers on a lot and show them available cars that match their desires. Car salesmen must know the ins and outs of their available vehicles in order to best answer any questions a customer may have. They may also need to explain the benefits of having certain features in a vehicle. Car salesmen often accompany customers on test drives of vehicles. Once a customer has made a decision, these professionals handle all of the paperwork and discuss the policies and procedures for the purchase. Most car salesmen work on some form of commission. The following chart provides an overview of the education, job outlook and average salary in this field.

If a food stylist needs one sprig of parsley for a shoot, they’ll often order 10 bunches. They never know what the condition of the parsley is going to be when it arrives from the produce vendor, or if the shoot is going to require more than they originally planned for. Carving a turkey in a scene? That may require two dozen birds if an actor keeps flubbing his line.

But often lost in the discussion is the point that printed newspapers still were expected to represent the second-largest dealer advertising media, after digital. That’s despite all that has been said about the decline of local daily newspaper readership in iPhone-equipped America, as multitasking young people turn to Instagram, BuzzFeed and Gawker to follow the world.

He went off and came back with a 0% loan, which if I took it got me another $500 cash back. I asked about early pay off, he said no penalty, but if I did it in 6 months or less they would charge the $500 back to the dealership, and he would appreciate if I didn’t do that.

There is a ton of noise when it comes to automotive marketing so even as an automotive sales person it is vital you stand out from the crowd. People have to at least know who you are for them to ask for you when they pop into your showroom. You agree?

These automotive professionals are just like you and me but they are investing in their business and when I say investing I do not mean just financially. They are all investing time, energy and most importantly creativity into building their business. And you can too.

I just became employed as a car sales lady for AutoNation. I have no experience selling cars; therefor, I do not have a name for myself in the business. I am in the process of having my own business cards made. I also posts things on social media to let my friends know I am there for them and I make sure to inform anyone I meet. I would love to make personal business calls but not sure which random people to call. I am trying to think of other creative ways to bring in my own personal prospects. if you have any helpful advice at all I would appreciate it very much.

Knowing what works and what doesn’t gives you the opportunity to tweak your process. Adjust or get rid of what doesn’t work, and keep what does. If you hit your numbers, celebrate! Then prepare for the coming month. What’s the goal? What’s the plan?

To me that seems like a great deal to take advantage of if the car is spanking new and hasn’t been sitting in the lot for a year. I’m talking about something like a 2014 Mazda Cx-5. Are costumers getting screwed over in that sort of deal? Especially if a new 2013 model was $1000 cheaper? I guess, how much would a dealer make off selling a car that has been out 2 months at invoice price?

Hi, Diane! Thank you so much for the advice. You know what I applied it on my calls for the past 3 days my sales improved. I personalised my calls and created connection with the customer and Voila! I created good numbers. I owe you a lot Diane! Thank you.

Cons: Owners are douchebags who social climb by brand. C Classes are fucking glorified taxis. WAAAAAAY overpriced. Terrible warranty. Maintenance on everything is ridiculously expensive. Other MB owners assume you’re part of some elite club. More marketing than substance.

Since then, I have talked multiple people out of even driving by the first, and have gotten 3-4 referral checks from the second. Not to mention the countless other people I have sent their way without bothering to bring up the bird dog.

The right attitude for car sales is much more important in getting a job than formal education, according to an April 2013 “AOL Autos” article. Auto sales has evolved over time and employers want representatives that help them attract and retain customers. First, you need to commit to work 45 to 60 hours over six days at most dealerships. A positive attitude, honesty, strong communication skills and relationship-building abilities all contribute to the right car sales attitude. You also need to recognize the value of service to retain customers.

Gift exchange: They get you to write down what you can afford on a piece of paper. The salesperson comes back with a counter offer and slowly slides the offer across the table to make it seem like they are giving you a present. This process may repeat another four times; be firm with what you wrote down.

Facebook is telling you that your content is not engaging enough, so they’re not delivering it to more of your “likes” (people who follow your page). Continue down this path and your posts can quickly become irrelevant, unless you choose to add budget to each one of your posts.

Social media is a hot topic right now. The naysayers have given up trying to convince us that social media is just a fad and now everyone from elementary students to centenarians knows that the social web isn’t going anywhere. This doesn’t mean we won’t see social networks fall and new ones take their place, just ask the founders of Friendster.com, but like email, social networks are here to stay, it’s only the names that will change.

However, savvy brands like Chevrolet developed a brand app allowing you to customise their vehicles, leveraging smartphone features like 360-degree views. Last year, Chevrolet launched the immersive app for the 2016 Camaro that garnered 62,000 downloads in just a couple of months.

The hands off approach — walk up to a potential customer, shake hands firmly and offer a quick greeting. Then, hand them your business card and say “Hi my name is X, here are my contact details. My desk is over there, so take a look around and when you’ve found something you like or have questions come over and I can assist you. Also, if another salesperson approaches you, inform them I am assisting you.” (The problem with this approach is your customer won’t likely feel any attachment to you, and so they may move on to someone else or leave the dealership with no information gained.)

Expansion Management- expansion of management is an effective sale strategy to automotive industry. This makes your business into latest geographies as well as cultures need which are concentrated on the necessities in these novel markets and receptive to the requirements and conditions of the changing market.

I tried to stand out in my dealership by offering a VIP Customer card to my clients and my management shot it down saying I could not do something like that persoally. It had to be all our sales people or noone. He doesn’t let us market individually. Like key chains with our picture on it or pens with our name on it. He believes that all customers are dealership customers not ours. Any suggestions?

When it comes to large projects, CIOs have always needed input from a diverse collection of businesspeople to be successful. The best have developed ways to convince and cajole reluctant participants to come to the table. They seek out technology enthusiasts in the business and those who are respected by their peers to help build passion and commitment among the halfhearted.

An added bonus of using a personalised app is that you can use your own images and colour schemes from your website and Facebook page and tailor the app to suit your needs without having to write any code. The app can also be submitted to Android and the iOS store simply and easily using an online form rather than struggling to submit to the stores themselves, making for a much quicker, painless process.

One of the most useful ways to use Facebook to connect with your customers is called “social care.” Social care is defined as customer service via social media. Customer service is essential to succeeding in any business, but it is paramount for an auto dealership, and those interactions are already moving online. In fact, a 2012 study by Nielsen found that 47 percent of social media users had engaged a company for social care and, what’s more, 30 percent of social media users prefer social care to traditional customer service over the phone, and for users aged 18-24 that number jumps to 37 percent!2

How many cars would you need to sell at $125 a pop to make a decent living? Do you think you could sell 3 cars a week? That’s about 12 a month — not too bad. That works out to $1500 a month. Or $18,000 a year before taxes. Hardly rolling in dough.

Used car leasing will become option dealers will consider in 2018 as the depreciation is less significant in the monthly payment of a used lease. I also believe this will represent another favorable ownership alternative to younger buyers.

The usual education level for a car salesman is a high school diploma. Potential car salesmen with high school diplomas can give themselves an edge by taking a few classes in sales or marketing. According to the Princeton Review, college coursework in psychology, finance, and public speaking is becoming more common.

Tony Hseigh, CEO of Zappos, had once made a woman friend of his call the Zappos call centre asking them to deliver Pizza in the middle of the night! And who’d have thought- they did deliver a pizza!. Although this is extreme customer-centric sensibility, you have got to sell your brand to your customer like they have never seen anything like it before!

Car buyers are researching your dealership. If they find your inventory online, they will inevitably end up on your website. Make the user experience unique and capture their attention (and information) right away.

You won’t get the engagement you’re after with sales-oriented messages, so think about a low-entry level message instead. For example, use the content you’re producing to get their attention and generate clicks, and encourage them to opt-in to your offer (e.g. “Download our Ultimate Guide to Family SUVs”).

The Japanese philosophy of Kaizen can change the face of your business if you truly understand what it means. In a nutshell, this is the philosophy which preaches constant improvement in business, personally and wherever you choose to apply it. By being receptive to feedback, you increase your chances to improve on your mistakes constantly. Auto dealership customer feedback is of utmost importance when it comes to delighting your customers because it is only when you seek to make a change that you stand a chance to be perceived differently. And the more open you are to perfecting your game, the more things you will notice are being compromised on and the more changes you will make to bettering them- thereby setting the “constant improvement ” ball in motion.

(iv) For Australian car dealerships, download the whitepaper by CarSales and IPSOS titled ‘The Journey to Vehicle Ownership‘. It suggests that the journey has been trimmed from 4.3 months to 2.7 months in just four years.

While this list of closing techniques is certainly not a complete list, it represents the techniques that have proven to be effective over time. As with learning the features and benefits of your product or service, learning these closing techniques takes time, practice, patience, and trust.

One auto manufacturer accelerating its use of new marketing approaches is Kia Motors America. Its Kia Soul shuffle slam marketing campaign, created by David&Goliath, was designed to pitch potential buyers in a way that enabled Kia to “engage consumers in a promotion that allowed them to be creative and communicate,” says George Haynes, social and digital media manager at Kia Motors America. The campaign invited consumers to submit videos of themselves dancing to electropop like Kia’s music-loving mascots, the soul Hamsters, on the Kia Soul YouTube and Facebook channels for a chance to win prizes.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, most of this education comes through job training (www.bls.gov). After hiring a new car salesperson, the company begins their own on-the-job training process. A new trainee is paired with an experienced salesperson, and this training can last anywhere from a few days to months.

The fact is that the people with the best credit get the best deals. People with the worst credit often get screwed.  People with poor credit pay the highest prices, the most interest, and are often forced to finance for terms that are either too short or too long.  Worst of all, their choices are severely limited.  They can’t just walk into a dealership and pick out the car of their dreams; the dealership tells them which vehicle they can buy, take it or leave it.  On the other hand, people with the best credit pay the lowest prices, the least amount of interest (sometimes none at all), and can finance for terms that suit them.  Their choices are almost limitless.  They can buy whatever they want, and dealers will fight for their business.  While this isn’t exactly a negotiating technique, good credit is the fundamental foundation for effective negotiation, kind of like good physical conditioning is the foundation for good athletic performance.

Marketing opportunities in the automotive industry don’t end when a consumer buys a car. Nowadays, with WiFi-enabled cars, smartphones, and navigation services, drivers are always connected to a digital network. It’s estimated that by 2020, 90% of cars will be Internet enabled. This constant connectivity is an opportunity for marketers to reach consumers in a relatively new way: post-purchase, “in-car” marketing.

Once you’ve created content for your site, have a call to action ready to go so that users are easily able to take the next step, which often includes direct interaction with the dealership. For example, if you’ve written a blog post about “Things that every new car should have,” at the bottom of the post, you may want to have a link that says “Sign up for your free test drive today!” so that users are more enticed to follow through. For larger pieces of content such as ebooks and white papers, creating a call to action that leads to a landing page where the user is required to fill out a form before they download is an easy way to acquire contact information to add to a newsletter list.

Networking is one of the most powerful tools job hunters can use. Get to know local car dealership managers and owners by attending functions where they gather. For example, you might attend local Chamber of Commerce meetings. In addition, the National Automotive Dealers Association holds annual conventions and regular seminars and workshops. Talk to experienced professionals about your interest and learn how they started in the professions. Ask for referrals and job leads from dealers you meet and arrange for meetings with key dealers in your area to build relationships that will lead to a sales associate position.

Came from a plumbing buyers/salesmen background, but I have owned 1971 Fomula 350 Firebird, 72 Camaro, and now own a 2015 Camaro. New to the game but a Cherolet/Cadillac dealer wants to hire me. Any Advice for a newbie!

Hi, my name is Sue & I’m thinking about transition into car sales. I’ve been selling vacation ownership sales for 3 years and it’s getting a bit much for me and want a fresh start at doing something else. I enjoy sales and the flexibility that comes with it. So I was thinking why not car sales? I am a woman & I have heard some unsettling stories so I was wondering what kind of advice you could offer up? I don’t really know what I’ll be getting myself into. If you could please email me suhtetnadi@gmail.com

I don’t really subscribe to the upsell, as it denotes a desire to give someone something they don’t want to make me more money. I want you to get the car you want, whether it’s a base model with crank windows and a tape player, or the Limited Edition Whale Scrotum Leather interior. It’s about you being happy and coming back a few years from now to buy another one, or telling everyone how you got a great deal from me when they ask about your car. And they will. Because that whale scrotum is soooo supple.

Food stylists use a mix of back-of-the-house kitchen lingo and film jargon. Some examples: The “hero” is the food that is written into the script, is being shot, and must appear in front of the actor. “Bite and smile” is when an actor takes a bite of food and pretends to like it. “All day” is the total number of items needed; if they needed five turkeys on a set, they would say “five all day.”

Change and innovation are the lifeblood of most retail businesses, but the automobile retail industry has been remarkably resistant to transformation. As a result, the industry suffers from an outdated and expensive channel, and most consumers feel short-changed and ill-treated in the bargain.

Make friends with your sales managers. These are the people that are ultimately going to help you seal the deal and they can also offer you “house deals,” which are about a third of the deals that take place at a dealership. If you’re friendly with your manager and they trust you, they’ll be able to put you on deals that are generated from the internet or from people at the dealership who know people who want to buy cars.[9]

– Make sure you provide sufficient contact information. Some dealers make it incredibly difficult to contact them, which doesn’t give a great impression of customer service. If you can’t offer more than just a contact form, then make a commitment to answer it in a short time frame and stick to it.

To gain preference in the automobile market, automakers have to get out of their own way and ask themselves the difficult questions. Too much of the marketing and branding in the automotive industry is thinking inside out, which usually only results in promoting product features and using clichéd themes.

Beyond that, you need to monitor your reviews across all these platforms.  It’s part of your digital marketing manager’s job.  Respond to any reviews you see fit, but especially the negative ones.  Explain your side and offer to rectify the situation.  Many buyers will change their review when they see you value their opinion.

For example, if I sell a car for $25,000 and there is a $1000 profit, or “gross” on the front end, I’m paid a $250 commission. If the customer finances through dealership and we make $1000 on the back end, I get another 5 percent, or $50. Total commission before taxes: $300.

Conference season is upon us and each business is competing with hundreds of others for attention.A strategy is needed, or your business simply ends up as part of the noise everyone fast-forwards through – media and attendees alike. So, how do you break through the “noise” barrier and actually get attention? Here are some tips: Press Releases –…See More

Since luxury car buyers tend to have a larger income, they want to know where they can get their new set of wheels quickly and efficiently. If you’re a dealership that sells luxury vehicles, you need to keep this in mind. Time is money!

You need to be very careful when buying a used car. You can easily end up with a lemon or rebuilt car. When you see a horrific wreck on the highway you probably don’t realize that many of those cars end up repaired, rebuilt and sold on the used car marked.

That is because, until now the most recent campaign, Dodge hasn’t invested in the brand of Dodge but rather in the models. It also hasn’t been helped by the Chrysler parent brand that is just as meaningless.

Most places won’t screw you on the signing, if it’s a reputable chain dealership. Used car lots are the exceptions. They always try and fuck you. It’s in their nature. Don’t hate them, just know that this is what kind of animal they are. They’re fucking animals. They like to fuck. That’s what they’re good at. And if you go in there expecting that you’re going to get a gentle Mormon kiss and a clothing-on spooning, you’re in for a world of disappointment.

If you’ve ever purchased a car, the sales professional most likely employed the puppy dog close on you and probably never knew he was using this technique. But once you are aware of the technique, how to use it and when not to use it, you’ll see your sales numbers steadily improve.

1. If you’re in no rush to buy a car, the end of a model year is a great time to get a deal. Determining when this is for a particular car can be difficult, but if a dealer has two years of a new vehicle on its lot (say, 2014s and 2015s), chances are the older ones are going to be priced to move. The last week of the year is another good time to buy. You’ll find lots of specials and manufacturer incentives at both times of year.

Fact: Email is a great way of automobile marketing but engaging requires far more than a one-way message. What is your open rate? What is your click through rate, bounce rate? Sending the same message over and over to the same audience is not engaging. When you segment your list, request interaction and survey your list you will be far better equipped to convert that list into buyers. With today’s technology and the fact that 77% of consumers prefer permission based communication a more effective plan executes, tests, refines and re-executes.

So what does that mean to your marketing? Everything. You’re already scheduling thousands of dollars in newspaper advertising, maybe trial some mobile advertising. The stats will tell you if it’s worth it for you.

Thanks to the internet, I’ve looked from California to Florida, and I’d prefer to buy from a dealership, with a warranty. Most of the cars I’m interested in have modifications that mark the price up, but it’s not worth what the dealerships are asking for because they are not in the aftermarket industry really.

This is the part of car buying people dread.  Well, most people.  There are some folks who  absolutely love to negotiate.  That’s how they get their kicks, affirm their manhood, and impress their girlfriends: by getting the best of a car salesman.  However you feel about it, negotiation is a major part of car buying, so I won’t be able to cover it all at once.  What I’d like to do first is offer an overview of a few good strategies car buyers can use to get a better deal, and next time talk about specific techniques that can make you a negotiating ninja.

When your dealership organization implements projects or initiatives to improve productivity, seize opportunities, or address other key issues, it usually requires changes…changes to processes, job roles, organizational structures, and/or applications of new technology. However, it is actually the employees of your dealership who have to ultimately change how they do their jobs.Change management is the discipline that guides how we prepare and support our employees to successfully adopt change…Continue

That’s astounding for a company that started during the Nazi era when Adolf Hitler wanted a cheap, simple car to be mass-produced for Germany’s road system. (In fact, Volkswagen means “people’s car” in German.)

Indeed thanks to digital monitoring and reporting tools, we are only now understanding precisely what the automotive buyer’s journey looks like in order to take advantage of it. One of the presenters at the Google Marketing Next presentation today, Bhanu Narasimhan the Director of Audience Products, explained how nowadays the path to buy a car doesn’t start and end with a person searching “cars for sale.” Rather potential car buyers will spend time online researching a few makes and models, reading vehicle reviews, as well as watching some test-drives on YouTube before ever stepping foot in a dealership. These types of searches signal that this person is in the market for a car and about to purchase.

Everything counts from your smile to your clothes. Everything about you will be scrutinized. If the customer forms an unfavorable opinion of you immediately, all is not lost but you will have to work harder to close a deal.

Today online consumers evaluate what it’s like to work with dealerships based on comments from previous customers.  They find these on review sites like Top Rated Local, Google My Business, Yelp, and BBB.  They also use dealership specific sites like Dealer Rater and Cars.com.  If you activate it, you can let customers leave reviews on your Facebook page:

Virginia: Phoenix, North Hollywood, Sacramento, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Ana, Denver, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Tampa, Atlanta, Chicago, Schaumburg, Indianapolis, Novi, Charlotte, Durham, Henderson, Portland, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Charleston, Nashville, Austin, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Arlington

Now car brands are using social media to reach their target market directly. Audi’s Instagram page, for example, is full of original visual content portraying the beauty of its vehicles that reassure potential rich-kid buyers that their Audi purchases would look good on their favorite image-sharing platform. The page has garnered 7.4 million followers, each one of whom has the potential to become a loyal customer.

When you look into CRM software take note of what training resources are available.  The biggest problem dealerships have implementing CRMs is a lack of consistent use from all staff.  You want something robust, but also something new salespeople can pick up quickly.  A complicated system with features you don’t need will hinder use.

Should your dealership be on every social network available or concentrate on just a few? How can dealers find sales on social media without alienating their “friends?” What tools are available to help dealers manage their social media efforts? Is advertising on social networks a good idea? These are all great questions, for which there is no short answer. The truth is, it depends on your market demographics, location, and marketing strategy. We can, however, examine some of the different social networks and tools available and take a look at how they work and how they can work (or not) for your dealership.
